Pfizer - if you had a bad reaction to the first jab, how did the second go?

I had my first Pfizer vaccination two weeks ago and had a terrible reaction. I'm not antivax at all
but it's made me nervous for the second round.

I've felt sick and dizzy and just not right. Kind of like sea sickness but also like I'm not fully conscious some times. It's quite unnerving.

Has anyone else had a reaction like this? How did the second jab go - was it worse or better? Is there anything I can take beforehand that might help?

I heard Dr Sarah Jarvis saying on Radio 2 that the vast majority of people who suffered bad side effects with the first jab had little or no side effects with their second dose whilst those who had no side effects the first jab tended to have a reaction with their second dose. That certainly was the case in this house and with work colleagues too.

Oh, that's reassuring thanks!

That was also the case with me (Pfizer)

I didn’t have much of a bad reaction after my first (arm was very sore though and did wake up half-way through the night). Had my second dose today and so far seem to be doing better. Though this time I took a paracetamol approx an hour or two after the jab, last time I didn’t do that until my arm started hurting.

Eloisedublin123 · 10/06/2021 22:33

I’d love to have a better time with the second than the first. My first was a week ago and I’ve had really bad week!

Ladylunchalot · 10/06/2021 22:37

I was absolutely fine after my 2nd dose, just a sore arm. I was very relieved as I felt horrible after the first dose. Good luck.

CrackedHeels2 · 10/06/2021 22:44

Same as others, felt rough after my first, terrible headache, took a day off work. After the second my arm ached a bit. So different.

Bargebill19 · 10/06/2021 22:46

First felt ill afterwards. Zero effects after the second.

LemonSwan · 10/06/2021 22:49

I had a bad reaction to the first, absolutely fine with the second.

garlictwist · 10/06/2021 22:55

I had absolutely no reaction after my first. It's making me fear what horrors await me for my second...

IMentionedTheBisque · 10/06/2021 23:32

That's good to hear that people with bad reactions after first are ok after the second. Fingers crossed I'll be the same. I couldn't imagine it being any worse!

Anyway, feeling much better now, so hopefully I'm over the worst now.

So much variation!

1st Pfizer….. no reaction,not even a sore arm!

2nd vaccine today and my arm is killing me,no other symptoms yet 🤞

CoffeeRunner · 11/06/2021 00:47

Ist Pfizer in Jan - DH called 999 as I was vomiting yet otherwise unconscious at 2am.

2nd Pfizer in Apr - wouldn't even have known I'd had a vaccine. Zero response.

IMentionedTheBisque · 11/06/2021 13:42

Thanks everyone. I definitely feel better.

That sounds scary CoffeeRunner. I bet you were relieved when the second one went so well.

I had a reaction that sounds like yours. Not scared of needles and barely felt the injection. 5-10 mins later feel light headed and not right, my vision went blurry as well. Just didn’t feel right at all and it was quite scary.

HollysBush · 11/06/2021 16:27

Bad reaction to first, second no problem just a little tired.

lunar1 · 11/06/2021 16:52

I had a reaction to my first Pfizer and had to be observed for 2 hours. I was the last vaccine of the day as I'm a volunteer and got a spare early on so staff had to wait on site.

I had my second dose at the hospital instead at their request, they gave me an antihistamine 30 mins before the vaccine and I was absolutely fine! Not going to lie, I was terrified.

IMentionedTheBisque · 12/06/2021 00:37

@PineappleIceCream yes that sounds just the same. I had a metallic taste in my mouth first, then my vision went blurry and I felt weird.

It wasn't until later that I felt in and out of consciousness. I've felt like that on and off since - although feeling better the last couple of days.

@lunar1 that sounds scary. Glad the second one went well.

That was the case with DH and me. He had his first shot the day I had my second, and he had a temperature, alternately sweating and shivering, headache and fatigue — whereas I, who’d had zilch effects after my first shot, spent a day in bed, feeling very weakly and woozy, fiery sore arm etc (though no temperature.)
Janey4321 · 12/06/2021 00:56

I was pretty ill with the first one - lots of nausea which other people don’t seem to be experiencing

My second one was not as bad
