I have felt lousy all week. On Monday evening I started to feel very lightheaded and hot. This continued Tuesday and I also got a very sore tongue/throat, making me cough, and an upset tummy. I had a PCR yesterday but the result came through negative today. I don't understand.

I'm supposed to have my 1st vaccine on Saturday but I know that you can't have it for a while after testing positive. Thankfully I WFH.

What don’t you understand? There’s other viruses. The test is negative I’ve so the last part of your post is irrelevant. So long as you don’t have a raised temp when you go for your vaccine you’ll be fine

QueenVikki · 09/06/2021 20:03

I’ve had a fever/cough last week and a negative test. Now that there is more mixing it is easier to pick up bugs. Social distancing hasn’t eradicated this!

purpleme12 · 09/06/2021 20:13

I don't understand
You seem to be saying you've got covid even though you've had a test saying you haven't?
Why?

4PawsGood · 09/06/2021 20:15

Sore throat isn’t a particularly covid-y symptom. Not to say that you never get a sore throat with covid, but it makes it less likely. You’ve probably got a different bug. Especially given your taste and smell are ok, oh and the negative test. Smile

Thatswatshesaid · 09/06/2021 20:16

It’s overwhelmingly likely you don’t have covid. But I wouldn’t be spreading any illness around right now. Push your vaccine a week stay home and recover.

ExpulsoCorona · 09/06/2021 21:05

I would repeat the test tomorrow or day after if you're still feeling rough, there are a lot of false negatives. Wrt Saturday, wait and see how you feel. If you're feeling better (and still negative on the repeat test) go ahead and have it. If you're still feeling rough, push it back a few days.

I've had quite a few patients test positive this week. The most common symptoms (Delta variant) have been headache, sore throat and fever. Some have had gastro symptoms too. Quite a few didn't develop a cough until a week into the illness. Hope you feel better soon xxx

CaptainBarbossa · 09/06/2021 21:10

If you have had any COVID symptoms in the past 7 days you are not allowed the vaccine, regardless of any tests

CaptainBarbossa · 09/06/2021 21:11

I think it's to do with your bodies immune response, you can't have a covid vaccine if you have had the flu vaccine too recently either

CirqueDeMorgue · 09/06/2021 21:17

Do some people think if you're ill, it has to be covid?

WhentheDealGoesDown1 · 09/06/2021 21:33

I would just book it for a week later, if you don't feel very well probably best not to have it anyway.

ExpulsoCorona · 09/06/2021 21:39

@CirqueDeMorgue

Do some people think if you're ill, it has to be covid?
Some people are really dumb (not the OP).

Pretty much every patient who has called me with a cough or fever this week haven't bothered to do a pcr test. They argue "it's not a Covid cough Dr". When they eventually agree to do a test, quite a few are positive now (South West London) and have been merrily spreading it around. A month ago, hardly any were coming back positive. Now it's a totally different story and it's safer to rule out Covid before spreading your bugs. It's summer, there really aren't that many other colds around.

HelloBunny · 09/06/2021 21:39

I was feeling very similar symptoms last week, and still am... Sore throat / tongue, painful ears, heavy chest. No cough or headache. Or stuffiness (not sure if that’s more cold than Covid?)
Ended up having a Covid test (was negative) when I should have been having my vaccine. Annoying, but since I’m still feeling below par, I’m glad I’ve delayed it anyway...

HelloBunny · 09/06/2021 21:43

ExpulsoCorona, exactly! I’d prefer to know if I had it, rather than just turn up at the vaccine centre, not knowing...
And the reason I took the test in the first place (apart from feeling unwell) is that I had to cancel a doctors apt (for something else) & she advised me to go for the test.

underneaththeash · 09/06/2021 21:46

OP - we all had that one a couple of weeks ago - in succession. Bloody annoying (but all -ve)

HelloBunny · 09/06/2021 21:47

My mum kept saying...
Of course you don’t have it! Sure, how could you get it? Where?
Ummmmm... Have people learned nothing in the last year or so?

shouldistop · 09/06/2021 21:50

There are other illnesses around...

I get all of these symptoms (bar upset tummy) with hayfever btw

Temple29 · 09/06/2021 22:15

I would delay it if you’re ill, regardless of whether it’s covid or not. I’ve just had my 2nd dose and feeling really rough after so can’t imagine you would feel great if you’re already sick beforehand.

NotBot · 09/06/2021 22:18

I’ve currently got a cough, sore chest, croaky voice (no sore throat). I’ve done 3 bloody covid PCR tests as my doc is convinced it must be covid. All 3 negative .. & I’m good at these tests now. They were impressed how far I shoved it up my nose at the walk in centre yesterday 😂 I suspect mine is heyfever, it’s been baddd this year!

Other bugs exist. One of my team is off with a stinking cold at the mo, also tested negative. We WFH, I’ve not seen her so not the same thing!

CasparBloomberg · 09/06/2021 22:26

I'd like to confirm what was said above by @ExpulsoCorona
My whole family started last week with sore throat, fatigue and headaches. No-one had any of the 3 required symptoms for covid to get pcr. All LFD tests negative.
2 days after starting symptoms we had our first positive test. Rest of house had to take PCR tests required by test and trace, negative. Then a few days later next person got a positive LFD, pcr confirmed it, few days later next etc. All now confirmed with Delta variant.
None of us got the temp or cough until after testing positive.

To reitterate, all of us were symptomatic with just sore throat, fatigue and headache (1 also had rash) and were testing negative for several days before we tested positive. Thankfully we took the decision to isolate anyway.
Please get retested if still unwell.

donquixotedelamancha · 09/06/2021 22:38

Do some people think if you're ill, it has to be covid?

Yes, lots. I've lost count of the number of people on here who definitely had it the January, December, even September before it started to spreak in the UK.

I had a really bad flu the Chrismas before Covid and loads of people insist I had it.

People just aren't very good at visualising probabilities.

RedcurrantPuff · 10/06/2021 01:05

Other illnesses than Covid exist

starfish4 · 10/06/2021 07:41

The PCR test shows you're negative so you can carry on as normal. Many people have tests because if symptoms, which come back negative. Have you taken a LFT in the last week or so?

Excilente · 10/06/2021 09:39

my household all had sore throat/temp/snotty nose/coughs this last two weeks, PCR negative, LFT all negative. There are some other not very nice bugs floating about unfortunately :(

strangeshapedpotato · 10/06/2021 13:19

Last December I went to stay with my 80 yr old mother for a couple of months.

As a precaution I self-isolated for 2 weeks before I went up, apart from one trip to the supermarket to pick up some milk.

The day I arrived, my throat started hurting. The next day I was very low energy - I felt cold all the time, couldn't get warm. My throat got worse. I was so worried I'd picked up the virus and thus put my mum at serious risk.
However test was negative. A couple of days later I felt fine again. No idea what it was - if anything!

Our bodies have ups and downs all the time, with and without bugs infecting us. What's different right now is that we are all hyper-aware of it. Every cough has us thinking, "is this it?"

A false negative PCR after symptoms have shown is incredibly unlikely. So quit worrying :)
