Did anyone have the Janssen vaccine?

I'm getting the Janssen on Thursday and was pretty pleased because it's only one dose so it'll be over in one go.

Did anyone else have it and if so how bad did you feel afterwards and how long did it last?

The official info I have says it's likely to cause classic reactions like fever, aches, etc. that shouldn't last longer than 48 hours, which sounds about what I was expecting but I thought I'd ask others to share their experiences, just out of curiosity really!

Yes, I’m a participant on the Janssen trial.

I had two doses, but the same strength as the one you will have.

After the first dose I felt tired - falling asleep in the day tired - but otherwise normal. I felt wretched after the 2nd (maybe because I was chock-a-block with antibodies already?) ! No arm pain or fever or anything else. Back to normal after 24 hours.

Are you in the U.K.? I didn’t think we were expecting supply of Janssen until later in the year.

I'm in the 2 dose trial too. I had no symptoms at all after either jab. I assumed I was in the placebo group, but it turns out that I did have the vaccine! So side effects are not guaranteed Smile

No, not in the UK, I'm in Iceland. I didn't know they hadn't started using it generally in the UK yet, so I suppose this was the wrong place to ask.
Interesting to hear from those of you who took part in the trial, though, thank you! :)

Ooh just remembered - I did have a bizarrely heavy period a couple of weeks after each jab, but I'm perimenopausal so that might have happened anyway. But I've since heard of menstrual side effects, so I suspect it is related.

PuffinShop · 07/06/2021 17:42

Interesting to know that is something that could happen, thanks.

A friend was in the trial. She said she got a headache about 24 hours. Paracetamol pretty much sorted that though.

I had the jab about 3.30 pm yesterday. Felt a bit light headed as I walked up the hill outside, but it passed quickly and I cycled home fine. By 10 pm I was starting to feel that tingling ultra sensitive sensation in my skin and when I stood up to go to bed the chills started. Had a slightly unpleasant night with aches, chills and fever. I'm on the sofa under a duvet today, getting better but still achey, a slight headache and a low grade fever.

Pretty much exactly what I thought would happen!

Going by my experience you should feel back to normal tomorrow (fingers crossed). Not much fun at the time though!
