Summer Holidays - Right and Wrong?

Back in May I posted a thread saying we would probably not be able to go away again this summer (most of us anyway). This was before the Indian Variant/Open Sky Border cock-up.

At the time, I got a lot of messages of the `’you do you, I’ll do me”, “I’m going, no matter what they say”, “i have two trips to the US and two to Spain booked and I am GOING” variety and others that accused me of throwing those that worked in travel under the bus for even asking. String views, but understandable.

What are people doing now? Still going away and dealing with tests and quarantine in return? Been away already? Cancelled the lot because of Government rules? What’s happening?

I think it’s all a bit unfair really.
I’ve travelled with work and tacked a few days fun to the end and that’s fine. Apparently.

Well how dare you. You should have staid inside for those few days or flew home as soon as you finished work because the new logic is that traveling outside the country for fun makes you a selfish murderer. But traveling inside the country for fun, going to a restaurant, pub, cinema etc does not. Only traveling for fun outside the country. The goalposts just keep moving...

We've just cancelled our October holiday (postponed from 2020) and moved to 2022.

No holidays in 2021 for us. Either UK or abroad. Former too expensive during school holidays and latter we can't take risk of isolating.

Itawapuddytat · 06/06/2021 21:11

We have 3 short holidays booked in UK, in England and Scotland , for July-August (fingers crossed things go well and we can go). In October we might even manage to get to France (a holiday originally booked in winter 2019 and already rebooked 3 times) but I am not making any plans about it at the moment, will see how things are in a couple of months. We might have to rebook it AGAIN for next year. Lots of family members live in Europe, haven't seen them since 2019, but currently we are not making any new plans to travel abroad for the reasons already mentioned in this thread.

Got ibiza booked for August and America for November. Will still go unless on red list or if my health worsens and I have to have the surgery I've been putting off. America is on my bucket list and my surgery is risky with a long recovery, so I'd really like to go before if possible.

@Candleabra I don't have any inside info except our figures started to look very favourable. Hospitals back to normal, turbo charged vaccine rollout, people behaving themselves etc but this week nightclubs open and dancing is allowed, there's a nurses strike slowing down the vaccine rollout, the border with the North opened and the kids break up for the summer so as in the UK, there are a few locals saying figures here in Cyprus could start creeping up again over the next couple of weeks.

Thanks @mrsnec
