School and covid

My son and daughters school has had a large outbreak of covid. Aprox 90 kids got sent home yesterday to isolate. Now his best friends mum just phoned to say her daughter has tested positive this morning. So my kids are isolating anyway but I was in contact with the friend I need to isolate too. We as a family are booked in for testing this morning. So this is what I don’t understand, if we are all tested and are negative do we still need to isolate. I haven’t had to deal with this yet.

Best of luck OP - but I would be very surprised if it isn’t Covid,

Abraxan · 05/06/2021 17:34

@GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat

Why are you testing without symptoms?
In many areas this is now advised by T and T. No symptoms needed, just book a test.

However, you still have to isolate for the full 10'days regardless.

@Chasanddive

Right I have it. I have and my two kids been in direct contact with the child, we have even if it’s negative have to isolate. My partner who hasn’t been in direct contact dosent need to isolate. Thanks all
If your partner has been in contact with your child who is coughing then they also need to self isolate for 10 days or until your child returns a negative test, if doing a test.

Your partner has to isolate as well now sorry as your son is symptomatic. Hope you have a garden and some sunshine for the 10 days and you all stay as well as possible

My school is not sending close contacts home anymore. They just do a lft, and if it’s negative they carry on as normal. I assumed that was the new guidelines.

I know, that’s at least three in his class, two of them very close friends. I’d be surprised if he never had it either.

That’s what I thought but no the school has said isolate for 10 days.
We have the food shop being delivered tomorrow. Then fingers crossed the weathers nice so we can get out the back garden. We have a big garden and trampoline for the kids. Both have been given school work to do. I don’t think my work was very happy when I told them I had to isolate.

There are 7 schools in Ayr town that are riddled.
The Robert Burns academy in Cumnock sends classes home every day.
Some of the village nurseries and primaries have cases too.
NONE of this on the news, even local Ayrshire news.

Invisimamma · 05/06/2021 18:38

High school in Falkirk have closed too due to outbreaks. The area has just moved to level 1 as well. Worrying!

Unless your school is in a pilot scheme and doing lft everyday for the self isolation period, then this is not the guidelines in England. It might be different in Scotland.

I was considered in English schools late last year but never happened. LFTs we're not considered to be reliable enough for that purpose.

Lots of schools have reduced their close contact measure to only specific children in a group, rather than full bubbles though even that has its limitations.

I'd be wary of a school using LFTs instead of the general advise for everyone.

Chasanddive · 05/06/2021 18:52

We are in the central belt. It’s spreading like wildfire.

@abraxan advice in Scotland at the moment is all close contacts of a poatitve case should take a PCR test before returning to school. 10 say isolation period still allies, even after the test is taken.

We have a school nearby where the whole school has closed and all pupils, staff and their household have been asked to take a PCR test.

Chasanddive · 06/06/2021 08:38

We were all negative. Thank goodness. Me and the kids still need to isolate. My partner dosent
