Does anyone know if the gap between jabs for under 40s is still 12 weeks? Or is it now down to 8 weeks? Thank you!

My dh was able to cancel his appointment for 11 weeks and rebook for 9 weeks. You do have to cancel the old appointment first which feels like a risk

Watapalava · 04/06/2021 19:39

in my area they are calling under 40 for second dose at 5-6 weeks

duvets · 04/06/2021 20:29

Thank you. Sounds like it could be worth cancelling and trying to rebook perhaps.

It is being reported that they are shortening the gap from 12 to 8 weeks, I am reluctant to rebook mine as I don’t want to enduro losing my current slot and then not be able to rebook sooner anyway.

EscapedfromGN · 05/06/2021 06:06

My sons were due to have their second dose at the end of June. Both have now had it. They were called in early so had an 8 week gap.

woodfort · 05/06/2021 06:28

Huh that’s interesting because the system only lets me book my second for 12 weeks plus. I last tried it about 4 days ago. I even phoned the hotline and they couldn’t do earlier (I literally want a day or two earlier because I’m travelling but it doesn’t work...)

In our area, our main hub states it's using Pfizer, second dose eight weeks later.

QueenVikki · 05/06/2021 08:11

If I wasn’t worried about getting an appointment I would change it, all of the Pfizer literature talks about a 21 day gap anyway.

SellFridges · 05/06/2021 08:17

I had my first (AZ) at the GP and they told us they’d call after about 10 weeks to do the 2nd. This week I was able to book at a centre for exactly 8 weeks later so I would say that’s now the default. I’m 40.

Sunny360 · 05/06/2021 08:20

I tried to re book a few days ago (38) but it was only offering me the same date again or later unfortunately

namechange34 · 05/06/2021 08:23

I called the hotline and they told me that they couldn't bring mine forward. However anecdotally people are telling me they are able to bring their appointments forward via the website. Didnt work for me. Perhaps depends on the area/supply of the particular vaccine you are due?

ilovebrie8 · 05/06/2021 08:27

My partner wants to move his but it’s risky as it asks you to cancel your current one first ...not sure if he’d get anything sooner. No way of knowing til you cancel

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 05/06/2021 08:31

I didn't have my second one booked as I had the first though my GP but I was able to book my second online. I could have had it at 8 weeks but it wasn't convenient so I've booked it for 9 weeks.

Lucidas · 05/06/2021 09:22

I’m still only getting offered dates for 11 weeks + on the website

BlackLambAndGreyFalcon · 05/06/2021 15:52

I still can't book my second on the national booking website any sooner than 11 weeks. I had my first at a gp hub, so I'm hopeful that they will call me for my second sooner than 11 weeks.

Reastie · 05/06/2021 15:55

I tried a couple of days ago to move mine forward but it didn’t have anything earlier. I had pfeizer. Dh is over 40 and had az and could move his forward by a few weeks.

MRex · 05/06/2021 16:48

I think everyone can get availability to move AZ. Moderna maybe is more tricky as there's less of it and Pfizer might also be limited as it's really needed for first doses for those in their 20s. It's probably fairer especially in early 30s to leave availability for the younger ones to get some protection.

DixonD · 05/06/2021 17:30

I had Pfizer and my second one is booked for 11 weeks via the NHS website. When my DH booked his, he was automatically given a shorter time period - he has AZ. He had his first dose after mine and is receiving his second a few weeks before my second.
