Not catching colds since vaccine

Does anyone know if the Covid vaccine provides any kind of protection against common colds?

My DD1 started nursery recently and has caught bug after bug, passing it to DD2 so both have been unwell on and off for last few months. Usually I would catch these too but since having my vaccine I've avoided these colds.

Interested to know if there Is there any science behind the vaccine reducing cold symptoms? Or is this just coincidence?

I don't know about the vaccine, but I've not had a cold since before March 2020. I've had one AZ so far and I'd be interested to know of it does have an effect on the common cold.

picturesandpickles · 28/05/2021 16:55

It will be just coincidence, the vaccine is pretty specific - asevidence by the fact it won't necessarily work as effectively against variants of covid.

Lovingspring · 28/05/2021 16:58

Sorry my DM has had both doses of AZ and now has a bad cold caught off a grandchild.

theweebabydonkey · 28/05/2021 17:00

I think the whole mask wearing malarkey has meant coughs and colds just aren't spreading as they were pre-COVID

KM38 · 28/05/2021 17:00

@wurlycurlywurly You know you’ve just jinxed yourself don’t you?! 😅🙈

speckledostrichegg · 28/05/2021 17:06

nah wouldn't make a jot of difference sadly! The immunity you gain is specific against sars-cov-2

anything else changed since you've been vaccinated - sleeping better, less stressed?

wurlycurlywurly · 28/05/2021 17:18

That's a shame! Have had both DDs coughing/sneezing all over me so just surprised I've not caught anything yet. Definitely not sleeping better as have a sleep-avoiding 9month old attached to me at all times 😀 I probably have jinxed it now and I'm going to catch a stinker of a cold next time!

I had AZ and caught a horrible cold a couple of weeks later from DD that she got from school

Drawcilla · 28/05/2021 21:43

I wish. I’ve been vaccinated and have caught three cold bugs in a month off my kids.

Theforest · 28/05/2021 21:55

I am assuming its because we arent mixing as we used to.

MercyBooth · 28/05/2021 21:59

My last cold was at Christmas.............2012

Rockbird · 28/05/2021 22:35

Nope, horrid cold all last week, fully vaccinated.

doublemix · 28/05/2021 23:12

I've had both Pfizer vaccines and have a heavy cold at the moment kindly passed on by my 3 year old!

Carameljack · 29/05/2021 07:29

I was kind of hoping this to be true as my kids have had a couple of colds since my AZ vaccine and I’ve not caught them and normally catch everything going. Sounds like it’s just a coincidence then Sad

Egghead68 · 29/05/2021 07:33

Most colds aren’t caused by coronaviruses so no.

MayMiracle · 29/05/2021 07:52

Completely anecdotal obviously 😀 but I've been double jabbed (pfizer) and have just recovered from the worst cold I've had in about 10 years. It completely floored me. It may be a coincidence but I actually went rapidly downhill with my cold after my second jab (May 7th). Certainly in our area, (my kids primary school) there's been a nasty cold circulating since restrictions were eased and we all started mingling a bit more. That said, I see my mum regularly, she's been double jabbed (az) and hasn't even had a sniffle 🤷🏼‍♀️

BogRollBOGOF · 29/05/2021 08:11

We had a flurry of minor colds in September but that's been it.

The way restrictions have impacted on my usual lifestyle means I've spent little time indoors with other people.

I haven't worn masks (exempt) but much of the winter, the supermarket was the only indoor space I went to and went at quiet times.

When I was a teacher, I wasn't often ill, but I did air my classroom frequently anyway as I hate stuffy, humid air.

I had my jab and have a horrific cold
