Have you had covid after a vaccine?

Just wondered if anyone has had a positive covid test after one or both vaccines? I'm due my second dose next week but feel awful today, and wondering if I should do a covid test? How likely is it that you can still catch it after one dose?

As far as I am aware they never claimed the vaccine completely stops you from catching or even spreading Covid.

However, the vaccine reduces the severity and transmission Covid.

So yes, even after a vaccine you may still catch Covid but you are less likely to need hospital treatment and spread it.

This is why caution is still being recommended.

ThornAmongstRoses · 28/05/2021 16:18

I know two people who caught Covid a month or so after their first vaccines.

Thatswatshesaid · 28/05/2021 16:19

I know someone whose currently isolating after a positive test who has had both vaccines.

fairgame84 · 28/05/2021 16:40

I caught it 6 weeks after my first Pfizer vaccine. First symptoms were a runny nose, scratchy throat so not even typical covid symptoms.

amylou8 · 28/05/2021 16:45

My step mum had it a few weeks after her first. But considering she's an ex smoker with COPD and was just a bit poorly it probably did its job.

Panpig · 28/05/2021 16:46

Oh wow so it seems it is still possible then even after a vaccine. Will go and get a test done!

We are Currently isolating as my son has tested positive this week .
He’d gone out with his gfs parents family for dinner where we think he got it.
My son is unvaccinated as he’s 25 , his double vaccinated gf was at the dinner and is negative but another 2 family members tested positive . One is double vaccinated and the other has had one.
So no rhyme or reason it seems !!
They seem to have all mild symptom similar to hay fever.

HairyFloppins · 28/05/2021 17:00

Has anyone had covid, then the vaccine then covid again?

Glad to hear most of these are mild cases.

Whyarewehardofthinking · 28/05/2021 17:05

I currently know of 7 people with COVID after a first dose and 2 people after 2 dose, plus a student a few weeks ago as well (double vaccinated due to other conditions. He was still very ill) All of those I know who had it after any vaccination are teachers in either Manchester or Bolton.

GingerLemonTea · 28/05/2021 17:10

I had covid 6 weeks after my first vaccine.

clpsmum · 28/05/2021 17:15

I arrested showing symptoms later in the day after I got my second vaccine! Thought it was a reaction at first but unfortunately not. Glad I'm vaccinated though

Jenasaurus · 28/05/2021 17:24

My DS and his Fiance caught it after the Pfizer Vaccine, although only one dose

Jenasaurus · 28/05/2021 17:25

and it was literally the same week he was about to have his 2nd jab that he caught it, he had it very mild, although his fiance was unwell for 4 weeks

LaPoo · 28/05/2021 17:28

I'm trying not to be harsh here but how to people still not understand that you can still catch and pass on Covid if you're fully vaccinated?

GingerFigs · 28/05/2021 17:33

@LaPoo exactly! 🤦🏼‍♀️

GingerFigs · 28/05/2021 17:36

But I guess now that lots are being vaccinated people are trying to assess how likely it is in 'real life' with people they know rather than the literature.

belimoo · 28/05/2021 17:37

I would be interested to know if anybody knows of anyone who has had the vaccine and then been seriously unwell with Covid?

feesh · 28/05/2021 17:40

I was just reading a really interesting article about this very issue. Here you go:

BetterthanIthink · 28/05/2021 18:32

@LaPoo
I never thought people couldn’t get it after they had been vaccinated . I was just offering my experience of what happened this week in my family with regards to vaccination and positive cases.

On a happier note . Both my DH and I have been accepted on a PHE study so that we don’t have to isolate for the full 10 days due to our son being a positive case. We have to upload a daily rapid test and as long as this stays negative we are free to go to work .

My friend’s husband died from Covid about 6 weeks after his first vaccine. He was late 50’s and overweight so I suppose he still had some factors going against him.

speakout · 28/05/2021 18:56

My DD currenty has Covid- she had her first vaccine 5 weeks ago.

Katya213 · 28/05/2021 19:14

My 85 year old uncle was admitted to hospital after a fall, he had bo th his vaccine doses. They routinely swabbed him on admission, he tested positive with no symptoms at all.

Oh gosh, I'm very sorry to hear that.
LynetteScavo · 28/05/2021 20:40

I think I heard on the news today 3% of people in hospital with Covid had received both vaccines (I may have misheard).

But they makes me think it's 97% effective.

Mrsbclinton · 28/05/2021 22:34

I got covid about 8 weeks after my first AZ vaccination.
