Anyone had Pfizer vaccine in first trimester?

I’m currently undergoing fertility treatment and if I’m lucky enough for it to work, my second dose of the Pfizer vaccine will be due before I’m 12 weeks pregnant. I’m keen to be fully vaccinated as I’m a secondary teacher so seeing 300+ teenagers a week, and we already had cases in school before numbers started to rise again: love my job and happy to be teaching face-to-face again, but definitely don’t think infection control measures in schools are sufficient and would like to feel as safe as possible.

However, I know some people are being advised by midwives to postpone until second trimester, and am conscious there’s not yet a massive amount of data to base my decision on.

If you did have yours in the first trimester, how did you decide and how were your side effects etc?

Have you had your first dose?

Yes, on the advice of the fertility clinic.

I’ve just had mine yesterday at 12 weeks so right at the end of the first trimester. I would have ideally waited a few more weeks but with the rise of the Indian variant and restrictions easing in June I wanted to be protected ASAP really. I had it yesterday at 8am and I felt fine apart from an hour or so ago and now I feel very fatigued and generally a bit crap like I’ve got a head cold but that’s it.

I should add that this could just be normal pregnancy symptoms but I feel a bit a hot so I thought maybe vaccine. I’m still had the stage where I feel crap with morning sickness so hard to differentiate!

Yes I had terrible weariness after my first dose, lasted about 3 days. Is this your first or second jab?

Good luck with the morning sickness; hope it eases soon.

This is my first jab, with second scheduled the middle of august. I’m sure one of the things I read said that one of the main reasons for waiting until after first trimester is that miscarriages are most common in the early weeks so there might be confusion as to what caused what. I think this was in the Ireland government guidance from memory. Obviously there’s also more scope for developmental abnormalities but they don’t seem to think there’s any mechanism to cause problems and haven’t seen any so far.

It’s definitely a risk but the risks of covid and pregnancy are now well known so that’s what tipped it for me. All the best for your fertility treatment and with whatever you decide to do with the jab :) wish we were all having babies outside of a global pandemic but can’t be helped!
