Anyone else keep getting faint positives on LF tests when you sneak a look at them a few hours later?

My DH always ends up with a second line on his lateral flow tests but they only appear after the half hour time limit.

This first happened weeks ago when we left his on the worktop overnight and noticed a line the next morning. But it seems to happen every time we haven’t chucked it out and today’s one is actually darker, although still didn’t appear within the time limit.

The rest of the family have never had even a squinter of a line even when left overnight.

Having looked online after the first time it seemed to suggest that it could be totally disregarded unless it appeared within the time limit. Yet it just seems very odd that it’s always him and never me or the kids. We all test twice weekly.

It's a thing. I think there was a thread about it already. Concluded that it was safe to ignore.

Thanks for your reply Lizzie. I’m not worried he has covid as it’s been so long now, at least a month, that these lines show. However it just seems weird it’s always him so obviously there is something in his body that is making that line appear. It serves us right for being tardy and not chucking the tests out quickly enough!

Tests should not be read 30 mins after it was taken the result is considered void. It says in the booklet you get in tests

megletthesecond · 24/05/2021 13:36

No. I'm about to report some negatives we did yesterday evening and there's still just the single line on them.

LFQuery · 24/05/2021 13:41

Meglet this is my issue as we have five family members testing twice a week, yet only DH gets an extra line, which seems odd. Nothing ever on ours, within or after the half hour. If it was more random and sometimes mine showed a line after an hour and sometimes one of the kids then I’d just assume that sometimes the tests show an evaporation line or whatever. But it’s just him.

Here are three of them. You can guess which one is DH’s!

Did you consider checking with a PCR at any time in the last month?

IME no faint positive has ever appeared on any of our tests, which often sit around for days afterwards (slightly paranoid feeling sometimes that I will to prove they were negative).

Rainbowsandstorms · 24/05/2021 15:46

Has he always had them or did they just start more recently? I wonder if he’s had covid and it’s still showing up.

Well when the first one happened I did suggest to DH he should get a PCR test just in case but he did some Googling and just said it was fine as it had appeared long after 30 minutes.

He’s been symptomless the whole few weeks since that first one in early to mid April which I know doesn’t mean he didn’t have covid but apart from the late appearing lines we’ve got no other reason to think there’s an issue.

If i had a late line appear I’d do another test the next day and if it was there again I’d go and get a PCR test. But this is DH 🙄

It’s been about five weeks I think and the first time was a few days after his vaccination. But I’m not sure if the ones he did before that were ever seen after a few hours so maybe they were always like that. He’s never knowingly had covid. None of us have in our household.

Did he have any vaccine side effects when he started getting the positives? He might have picked up covid a few days after he got jabbed.

Absolutely zero side effects or any sign of illness after the vaccination. I made him do another LF test on Monday evening when he got home and watched it like a hawk and no line appeared even after a few hours. I guess it’s just a mystery and we will forget about it and start just chucking out the tests after half an hour as we should have done anyway.

Did you ever get to the bottom
Of this because it’s been happening to me for two months. I did get a pcr the first time but it was negative. It tends to happen only on the first lateral flow tests. If I take another straight away it’s always clear
