How long do you think it will be before the UK offers mixed Covid vaccines

I know no one here actually knows; but at a guess, how long do you think it will be before we can mix Covid vaccines?

I had my first dose of AZ 10 weeks ago and I’m due my second next week.

I’m really tempted to hold off in the hope that like France, the UK will allowed a different vaccine for anyone under 40 who received AZ for their first dose.

What does everyone think?

It depends on the outcomes from the various worldwide clinical studies currently taking place about mixing vaccine brands. The one happening in the UK expects initial findings to be available in the summer.

Info here on that study

I’ve had both of mine as of yesterday AZ, but I would be happy to have a different one as a top up if we are to have another come autumn. I am older than you, but would have taken any that was offered.

I think they will in future but not yet. I am expecting the trials of mixed doses to show better immunity than two of the same.

July?

I doubt they would in the near future. Remember they are saving the Pfizer for second doses and first doses for under 40s. They are going to want to use up their AZ supplies before talk of mixing doses.

I think it'll happen eventually, but I reckon more likely is two of initial vaccine and then alternative autumn booster.

I guess we should have let the EU have their AZ orders after all.

Ah well. Suddenly I think we are going to be very philanthropic.

They don’t have the supply to give Pfizer or Moderna to anyone who wants it. Supply is already incredibly tight.

This!

Obviously can only speak for the vaccine hubs I work at but we are very AZ heavy at the moment and trying to get as many 2nd AZ doses administered asap. Pfizer is in short supply ATM we are struggling to offer many 1st dose clinics to the under 40s and 2nd dose Pfizer patients so offering 2nd Pfizer to 1st AZ patients is incredibly unlikely in the imminent future. Anyone holding off a 2nd AZ who is due soon in the hope for Pfizer should come to terms with this not being an option now (or likely ever) and accept the 2nd AZ to maximise the vaccine efficency.
