Do you think they will scrap Amber? What's the chances of Turkey coming off red next announcement?

I have a surgery booked in Turkey after the next announcement, flights booked pre red list.
Do you think I will be able to go?
It's been rearranged twice now.

I think the worry may also be Turkey not letting you in especially for elective surgery.

Goldenskeletons · 23/05/2021 09:52

Well yes, there's that.

Personally I think Turkey will stay on the red list for quite a while purely because people were using it to avoid quarantine.

It was the case that people would arrange their flights via turkey (From other red list countries) and then they could avoid quarantine when they got back..

So because of that I can't see it going green anytime soon

Lockheart · 23/05/2021 10:23

No-one knows. Prepare for the worst, hope for the best.

Goldenskeletons · 23/05/2021 10:26

I can fly on Amber because I will have a medical certificate

I think they will be forced to scrap it and quite soon. Lots of people I know are planning to just go to amber countries and pretty much ignore this quarantine nonsense when they get back (despite Priti Patel's pathetic threats). Good on them I say, I may well join them.

strangeshapedpotato · 23/05/2021 11:18

It depends on how big a donation Erdogan makes to the Tory party.

EasterIssland · 23/05/2021 11:33

I highly doubt turkey will come off to amber whilst the numbers are high and the Indian variant is still going around.
Don’t think travelling to turkey is forbidden (correct me if wrong) but there is no direct flights so you would need to find a way to get there. Also isolate in a hotel when back. If it’s elective surgery can it be delayed til things are better ?

Doomsdayisstillcoming · 23/05/2021 11:49

So much judgment my brain imploded.

Goldenskeletons · 23/05/2021 12:11

I have a direct flight booked.

@Goldenskeletons

I have a direct flight booked.
Thought they were forbidden, would you be able to isolate in a hotel post surgery if you want to come back.?
Goldenskeletons · 23/05/2021 13:23

Nope. You can still book direct flights?

I definitely cannot do hotel isolation. I don't have the money so can't go if that is a requirement at the time.

So what will you do if you test positive before flying home?

Even travellers from green countries need to show a negative test before travelling.

You won't be allowed to get on the plane with a positive test and will need to find somewhere to stay (and maybe pay for a new flight).

Goldenskeletons · 23/05/2021 13:58

The place I'm going provides a fortnight accommodation for £300 if you test positive.

That's a lot of difference from 1750

OP posts:
Goldenskeletons · 23/05/2021 13:59

And I have covid insurance so if I test positive and can't get on that flight they reschedule for you.

I think it's highly unlikely to move to amber any time soon, but we're all guessing.

Andorra is 78 cases per 100k and they've just come off the hotel quarantine list.

Turkey is 87 per 100k and decreasing daily. So I have hope.

OP posts:
EasterIssland · 23/05/2021 14:18

I don’t think Andorra was ever on the red list.
Spain is 150(75 weekly as they calculate by 14-days) and it’s not in the red list but amber.
Turkey however , many were using as it’s cheaper to stop over and the. Fly into the uk and avoid the quarantine , so whilst this is going on I doubt it’ll be removed

Also if you can’t afford the hotel quarantine then depending when your flights are for you might have to postpone it

Goldenskeletons · 23/05/2021 14:21

So surely they just need to check peoples passports and flight history to stop people going through Turkey?

Amber is fine for my purposes as I have a medical flight certificate.

If it is declared Amber on 7th, implimented on 14th June, I fly on 30th June and back on 5th July so will be back before the next announcement

@Goldenskeletons

That's interesting. Certainly more affordableQ

I hope everything works out for you.

ItsCokeFFS · 23/05/2021 15:07

Not sure where that random Q came from.

HSHorror · 23/05/2021 15:17

I dont know but think it's likely uk will be in the hundreds per 100k quite soon.
