Portugal this year?

Taking a holiday amidst all this has been the last thing on my mind. I hadn’t even considered it.
But we’ve just been offered a free one to Portugal this summer. I’m still shocked really and I feel apprehensive.
Do you need to pay for tests before and after? How safe really would the airport and plane be? What are cases like over there?
I don’t know what to do. Half is saying don’t go the other half is saying go. Me and Dh would both have had our 2nd jabs, dd won’t as she’s a child.
Opinions please!

Private PCR Tests here are everywhere even boots do them.

Tests there are apparently at the airport (in Portugal that is).

@itoldyouiwasill100

I am looking at Spain as they have opened up. What's the situation on return? Where do you get the tests? Any advice appreciated 🙏
Spain's on the Uks amber list at the moment. If that doesn't change then coming ack into the UK from Spain you will need a test in Spain 72 hours before your flight, a test in the UK on day 2 and day 8, and quarantine for 10 days unless you have another test on day 5 to cut the quarantine time. So 3 or 4 tests per person plus quarantine.

Tests here aren’t free. You can’t use NHS tests for travel.

denverRegina · 27/05/2021 06:50

"At least the tests in the UK will be free"

They're not.

When I googled the gig website had links to £160 tests. I'm really confused. How much do tests really cost? Confused £35 per person would be affordable, but certainly not £160 on top of a holiday.

Watapalava · 27/05/2021 07:08

book with tui

Tui are offering all tests for green countries that don't require a test per departure for £20pp (so lft before you fly home and pcr on day 2)

Note not all green countries allow you in without a test/with vaccination - many still want a test before you leave UK in which case Tui offer all 3 tests (lft and 2 x PCR) for £60 pp its on their website

Watapalava · 27/05/2021 07:08

so a family of four can go to a green country for as low as £80 all tests included

@itoldyouiwasill100 the tests aren’t free, you have to book the travel ones or they won’t you back into the UK. I’d budget £200 per person for all the tests. And make sure you can do the quarantine within work/school etc.

Watapalava · 27/05/2021 07:18

itoldyou

The prices of tests without an operator are minimum 3x higher than with operators. Plus you get full refund with a package

Its much safer to buy a package in current situation as you're fully covered. Last year when people couldn't get refunds with easyjet/ryanair etc, my easyjet package holiday was refunded in 5 days whereas flight only took 6 months +

Watapalava · 27/05/2021 07:19

overbow

with packages they are much cheaper £20 pp with tui
