Going away and covid vaccine

Looking for some advice.

I am travelling to an Amber listed and will be in quarantine upon return for 10 days as government rules state. However, during the 10 day quarantine period I'm booked to receive my second shot of the covid vaccine (exactly 12 weeks apart). I can't move the travel nor can I move the date of the second vaccine forward to take it before I go. I've been trying to reschedule it and unable to so far.

Therefore do I have the option to get the jab on my scheduled date, while I'm in quarantine. I go get the jab and go straight home. Or will I have to start the process again and book the first dose followed by the second dose 12/8 weeks later?

And, don't forget, you have to leave quarantine to get your day 2 and day 8 tests done. One of my friend's husbands has just returned to the UK after a long period of working in Europe and he had to travel about 20 miles to a nearby city on day 2 and day 8 to get his PCR tests done at a private clinic. They don't come to the house you know :)

I think the best bet would be to ring 119 and ask for advice. It might be the case if having the vaccine a little later. It might not be letting you change it now but I am sure it will nearer the time. I've known of a few people having it over the 12 week mark.

I’d speak to your Docs. My Dad was self isolating and due to have 2nd vaccine at exactly 12 weeks after his first. He went after speaking to Docs and followed the advice they gave

Bide your time, the 12 weeks is being reduced to 8 so you'll probably get the second dose earlier.

Don't call your GP unless they're doing the vaccination in the practice.

If its any kind of hub you need to call whatever number you're given.

I'm stunned at the nasty comments. Is it jealously someone is headed abroad? Hmm OP I would call 119 to change the date and confirm the 14 week internal is fine.
@Lostinacloud, total money grab...

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 24/05/2021 00:27

It is a total money grab, but that’s just because the whole test to release thing is ridiculous. Especially on day 5. No wonder we have a problem in the U.K.

Have the second vaccine early before you go, you can go to a walk-in or pop-up clinic.

ReaderThirtyseven · 25/05/2021 07:14

Well done lostinacloud. UK scheme is a nasty shakedown; and its (wholly corrupt) adherents will take time to let it go. What next?
