2nd AZ jab next week (age 32)

I’m 32 years old and had the AZ jab in March. Due my second one next week. Not sure if I want to take it up now due to the blood clot risk. Can someone please help me put it into perspective? How big is the risk? Obviously I was okay first time round. I’m usually not a worrier about these sorts of things but everyone I know is now only having the pfizer jab.

I was offered the vaccine early as I am a support worker. Thanks.

Hello, I had my second AZ last week (I'm 33 and healthcare worker) and had the same worries. However, I read on the bbc that if you had no clots after the first one, they're absolutely not worried about you having a second one- in facts, apparently the risks would be higher if you had a different jab (because you then are exposed to the risks of that jab as well).
Fwiw my second jab was so much better- was quite ill after the first but fine after this, no side effects at all, and it feels good to have both!

IndigoC · 19/05/2021 12:14

Currently there are 8 cases out of 7.5 million second doses given, according to MHRA data, so the odds are low.

Chillychangchoo · 19/05/2021 12:21

Ok thanks both. Feel reassured now and I’ve just read all the info on the NHS site. I’ll go ahead and have it.

I was worried too, but had no side effects after 2nd compared to first which was somehow very reassuring.

TulipVictory · 19/05/2021 16:09

@Chillychangchoo I'm in the same boat as you. Still keep questioning it 😩

cadburyegg · 19/05/2021 16:14

I'm 33 and had my second dose of the AZ jab last week. No issues. There's more of a risk from a blood clot if you take the pill tbh

Duckyneedsaclean · 19/05/2021 16:17

I'm 32 (and pregnant) and had second dose.
As said above, very very low risk from second dose. Also had no side effects with second dose.

HSHorror · 19/05/2021 17:00

So about 1/mil then. I would expect that to rise as we move down the age groups. As it aould be dose 2+ up to 3w too.
Im early 40s and will have dose 2 but im not going to move it earlier.
Partly to see what happens to the numbers but mainky as they think 12w is more effective.

JemimaTiggywinkle · 19/05/2021 17:02

I read that vast majority of people who have had clots had it after the first dose, the risk is much lower on the second dose.

Spekoppar · 19/05/2021 17:46

I’m on my thirties and will be having my second dose of AZ at the weekend. The risks are tiny, much smaller than many every day risks we take without even thinking about it.

@Onceuponatime1818

No thanks, how about just click off the threat. My title was fairly self explanatory.

@cadburyegg

That’s the thing I am also on the pill which I know elevates your clot risk anyway.

Also to the people who have said they have been fine after the second dose, the timeframe is up to 4 weeks after the jab.

It just doesn’t really fill me with much confidence now when they have backtracked.

There wont have been many young people to have had AZ dose 2.
So they cant say it's all from dose 1.

Some of group 6 will have had dose 2 recently so they are probably in the 4w.

Just adding today's news

www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-9622627/German-scientists-claim-figured-Covid-vaccines-cause-blood-clots.html

Does it matter if I wait more than the 12 weeks for my second dose ?

Missypuff30 · 27/05/2021 09:59

I was also worried about my second dose - 29 and had AZ just before they said under 30s shouldn't have it.

The risk of a blood clot is still really low and I was just made fully aware of the signs and symptoms to look out for at my second dose appointment.

Day 4 post second dose is today, so making sure I'm being aware of my body and will be calling 111 if I get any sort of bad headache etc.

Chillychangchoo · 27/05/2021 19:31

@Missypuff30

It’s 4 weeks post vaccine you have to watch for signs. After that you’re in the clear.

Thank you, yes 4 days to 4 weeks after. There's a section in the leaflet that you get with all of the symptoms to look out for and they emphasized this to me at my second jab.
