Are they giving an alternative to AZ in under 40's now?

Does anyone know if they are actually giving an alternative to the Astra Zeneca vaccine currently to under 40's as per the new advice?
I will be happy and grateful to get my vaccine what ever it will be but I must say I am hoping it won't be AZ one.

Yes. The appointments you can book are for moderna/Pfizer.

HairyFloppins · 17/05/2021 13:19

I'm 40 in Aug and had Pfizer at a local GP on Friday.

TokyoSushi · 17/05/2021 13:20

I know 4x under 40's that have had the vaccine this weekend, they all had Moderna.

NorthCountryMam · 17/05/2021 13:40

I'm 40 and have just had the Moderna. I booked at a large vaccination centre as thought it was my best chance of getting a non-AZ jab.
Everyone in my queue looked to be late 30s/very early 40.

nordica · 17/05/2021 14:09

Yep, everyone I know under 40 who has had their 1st vaccine this past week has had either Pfizer or Moderna.

AZ is only being given to those under 40s who already had a first AZ vaccine earlier and are now due their 2nd.

36 year old I know was given a choice of AZ or another at the actual appointment last week. This was Battersea or somewhere like that.

delilahbucket · 17/05/2021 15:20

Dp is 40 and was given Pfizer last week at a primarily AZ clinic. I'm 35 and booked tomorrow after being informed by my GP surgery via text that they clinic will give me Pfizer.

Londonmummy66 · 17/05/2021 15:30

I was volunteering at a large vaccination centre on Friday -all Pfizer and a lot of them were under 40.

Roseability18 · 17/05/2021 17:04

Does anyone know if this is also the case in Scotland? Got an appointment through for the local GP for next week. Older family who have had vaccines there were all AZ. I’m mid thirties and have family history of blood clotting (never been allowed the pill for this reason) so would prefer to avoid AZ if possible. But appointment letter doesn’t say which.

KaleSlayer · 17/05/2021 17:08

I’m not having the vaccine but was offered AZ a few weeks ago. Had a text a few days ago saying Pfizer was now available. I’m early 40s.

cleckheatonwanderer · 17/05/2021 17:11

I've just booked for next week and the appt confirmation said I'll be getting Pfizer

BlackLambAndGreyFalcon · 17/05/2021 17:12

Yes I had Pfizer on Saturday. I wasn't offered a choice - just told it was going to be Pfizer.

DixonD · 17/05/2021 17:13

Yes, most under 40s are getting an alternative.

marypoppinsreturns · 17/05/2021 17:29

@Roseability18 I am in Scotland and over 40 and was given AZ yesterday. A friend who was also at the vaccination centre and a couple of months under 40 was given Pfizer. We were asked if under or over 40'upon arrival and directed accordingly, though GP's may not operate in exactly the same way.

Roseability18 · 17/05/2021 18:26

Thanks @marypoppinsreturns that’s interesting. I’d take anything really but if it was a case of drive a bit further for the Pfizer one, I’d happily do that. So excited to get the letter!

OliveTree75 · 17/05/2021 18:37

I got my text today and I am 33. The text said it would be pfizer

@marypoppinsreturns thanks for that info, I've been wondering how they will do it up here since we don't use the online booking system

OliveTree75 · 17/05/2021 20:43

I am in the north east. I was 33 yesterday. My best friend is also 33 and got her text today too! My DP is 36,he got his last week. I think our area must be a bit ahead!

Mumofher · 17/05/2021 21:21

On a bit of a tangent but anyone get offered a vaccine really early, I'm 33, not a key worker , currently unemployed anyway and no underlying conditions or vulnerable but I got 1st jab in March and due my 2nd in a few weeks. Found it weird that I was offered while the over 60s we're getting theirs

Mumofher · 17/05/2021 21:22

Meant to say due 2nd jab in a few days not weeks
