Getting ill with covid despite one dose of vaccine

A friend of mine caught covid before full immunity had built from the vaccine. She's OK now, but wasn't feeling at all well. How many others have had this happen, and how ill have people been if they've caught covid really soon after the vaccine? I know there tends to be a spike in covid deaths just after countries introduce the vaccine, presumably because people stop being so careful when they've had the jab, so they go out and catch covid. What are people's experiences of this?

The vaccine hopefully minimises the effects of Covid but it does not stop you catching it.

It does reduce transmission though.

4PawsGood....indeed it does.

Yes, I get that.

Just wondering about other people's experiences of catching covid after the jab BEFORE the benefits kick in

I’ve heard lots stories from
People and on here where 80y had the jab at 9 and by 930 in local Tesco’s. At the start they weren’t that clear on it takes 3 weeks to get protection.
