Just as care home visits are allowed does anyone fear they will soon be stopped again?

From Monday my mum has told me that I will be able to go inside my Dad’s care home & actually hug him (as long as have done lateral flow test). I haven’t been able to do this for 14 months😢 I don’t think he will know me any more but there’s a chance if I can get that close to him it might trigger something.

I’m just so worried now with this indian variant concern thag they’re going to stop visits again almost before they’ve started. I’m planning to get in there quick! I can’t wait any longer to hug my beloved Dad🙁

Just wondered what other’s thoughts were who are in a similar situation or does anyone work in a care home who might have any insight?

I don't think visits will stop now. There may be more restrictions e.g. needing a PCR test as well (this is in place at my mum’s care home so I can take her out for walks and garden visits) but I can’t see there being a significant roll back. At least I hope not. My mum’s care home is fab though - has been pragmatic all along and firmly believes in quality of life now they, the residents and most of the relatives have been vaccinated.

I hope you hug your dad soon. I can’t tell you how wonderful it was to sit in my DS’s garden, with my mum watching her great grandson playing with water and paper aeroplanes. Magic.

Hopefully if the information shows the vaccine is working you will be ok . The latest headlines show people in hospital with the new variant were eligible for the vaccine but did not have it .
