Dd who has sen turned 16 in March this year. All she has wanted for ages and ages is to go to Disneyworld. I don’t have Disneyworld money but I have saved and saved and saved to take her to Disneyland Paris in October half term.

She knows about it as that was her birthday present. She was so excited and has been planning what characters she wants to meet. She downloaded the map and has decided what she wants to eat and where.

We aren’t going to get to go are we? I have got insurance. Jesus bloody Christ.

@Puntastic it's literally in the OP they said PARIS.

Don't give up all hope yet. I think it'll be fine!

Ohdoleavemealone · 15/05/2021 17:27

I think there is still a chance. Had you said June/July I would have agrred but don't write October off just yet.

CMSdividend · 15/05/2021 17:36

We were due to go March 2020 and have moved it 3 times now and cancelled it when France went back into lockdown.
@AC12theletterofthelaw Inventions is closed for two years while they refurb the hotel - we were due to stay there.

The way of meeting characters has changed a lot too. No hugs and a distance of 6 feet.

We're looking at going next April when there may be a chance of a normal Disney experience. Prior to the last lockdown there were no parades, fireworks or shows. I'd imagine Disney being cautious again as they open back up. Even if you can get there for October I don't think it'll be the experience she thinks it will be.

Samanabanana · 15/05/2021 17:42

Why would you think you wouldn't be able to go in October? It's ages away and vaccination is going well, mainland Europe will catch up. So much doom and gloom on MN at the moment!

EveLe · 15/05/2021 17:45

@Queenofbeebers I hope you get there! She’ll love it! Just wondered if she has ASD, are you aware she’ll qualify for a green pass, so you wouldn’t have to queue for the characters? It’s well worth getting one. We met so many characters using the pass.

We also did the character breakfast, as it’s much cheaper than inventions, and the food was more suitable for my DC, that was fab too, and we saw 6 characters, they go around each table posing for photos so well worth the cost.

PotteringAlong · 15/05/2021 17:46

I think you are fine for October! We’re planning on booking for October with the expectation that we will get there.

AlmostSummer21 · 15/05/2021 17:48

I think you'd be better to postpone until this time next year. It's lovely in spring!

As others have said, it'll be far from the meeting the characters experience it normally is if it's open in October.

If she's anything like my god daughter (with ASD) , she'll be disappointed but she'd use the extra time to do even more research and added illustrations!

If she keeps charming everyone for another few months, LA might not be such a stretch.

AlmostSummer21 · 15/05/2021 17:50

We did the breakfast in LA, definitely lots of characters. But because it's random
It might not be her favourites.

NaturalBlondeYeahRight · 15/05/2021 17:54

Oh op, I think there is a decent chance you’ll get there. Don’t do anything yet. We have Spain book in summer hols and we aren’t too worried yet. Still a while to go.

IReallyNeedMoreGin · 15/05/2021 17:56

We're supposed to be going in October too. Our Euro tunnel train was cancelled a couple of weeks ago. I doubt it'll go ahead. Tbh I'll be glad if it's cancelled, they're doing some major works to the Disney castle and it's all shut off till next March. Also a lot of the restaurants are closed. So I'm hoping it'll be cancelled and we'll book again for late 2020. DC have no idea it's been booked.

looptheloopinahulahoop · 15/05/2021 18:04

I started reading this thinking it must have been a 2020 thread.

October is six months away. Why all the gloom?

and don't say Indian variant!

bitheby · 15/05/2021 18:08

This seems a bit previous. What do you know that we don't know? Travel might be fine by October.

99redspottedducks · 15/05/2021 18:11

Op it's not exactly the same but have you seen the Disney cruises? That stay in the UK
You have to be fully vaccinated and I know it's not got rides etc
But has characters and Disney themed and the whole weekend would be Disney
Is that something you could look into instead? Might not be such an issue as doesn't leave UK

Queenofbeebers · 15/05/2021 18:19

Oh I don’t know I’m just listening to Boris and it feels like every time it gets a bit safe and there is a chance of making some plans they get bloody dashed. I’m feeling a bit sorry for myself.

OP posts:
Comefromaway · 15/05/2021 18:25

Why quite obviously? She said Disney World, which is the US one.

No, what the OP actually said was

“ All she has wanted for ages and ages is to go to Disneyworld. I don’t have Disneyworld money but I have saved and saved and saved to take her to Disneyland Paris in October half term. ”

TimeForLunch · 15/05/2021 18:25

Oops sorry, I don't know why I made that assumption! I would be confident about France being open by October though too. Good luck op, hope you get to go.

leftistbimbo · 15/05/2021 18:33

Aw bless her! October is still a while off, I’ve got my fingers crossed for you that it will be all okay or at the least you can rearrange for next year.

Could you start planning an alternative if you can’t go away? A shopping trip to somewhere with a big disney store to spend some of her birthday money, & then a sleepover with her friends and some disney movies perhaps? I know that’s not even close to the same thing but give her something to look forward to.

Cantstandsmugness · 15/05/2021 18:35

I feel the same @queenofbeepers and if I have managed to get the right lottery ticket for tonight’s draw I’m upgrading you to Walt Disney world x

Abraxan · 15/05/2021 18:39

Keep the booking. October is still a long way off. All being well you will be able to go, and quite possibly without restrictions.

We are booked to go to the Orlando parks for October half term. It's all cancelable and refundable but I'm hoping by then, another 5 months away and with our vaccination programme doing so well, we may be able to go. I'm not cancelling - have until 3 weeks before to get a cash refund and 2 hours before to get a voucher refund.

Fingers crossed you get to go!

Ad yes, Alton Towers won't hit the same mark as Disney if that is what they've planned for,

EL8888 · 15/05/2021 18:41

All is not lost. Instinct tells me it’s more likely to happen then not. There’s a good chance. Vaccine programme is going well, we are ahead of schedule. Fingers crossed Flowers

CovidCorvid · 15/05/2021 18:44

@looptheloopinahulahoop

I started reading this thinking it must have been a 2020 thread.

Same. I also checked the date...I think oct is really quite likely.
wildeverose · 15/05/2021 18:51

Move it anyway. I'm a Disneyland Paris regular, and I can tell you your first trip will not be magical this year.
The castle is under renovation and won't be finished until next spring for the 30th anniversary.
She won't be able to meet characters properly, only at selfie spots which isn't the same.
There are no parades or fireworks until next year.
The restaurants are also mostly closed and there is no character dining either.

I am also meant to be going in October after moving from last year to this and then twice this year! I would love it to may half term 2022. It will be the 30th anniversary and will be much better than October this year.

wildeverose · 15/05/2021 18:53

Also inventions is closed as the Disneyland hotel is closed.
The castle has a tarp over it .
It's really likely you'll be able to go in October, but I really wouldn't. Not for my first trip when my child was so excited.

Puntastic · 15/05/2021 18:56

@Queenofbeebers

I said I don’t have Disneyworld money so we are off to Paris. Grin
Lol, my bad! Apologies. BlushGrin

FWIW, I remain unconvinced that Disney World is worth the flight time. Hope you get to go to Disneyland.

GameSetMatch · 15/05/2021 18:57

Keep your fingers crossed and don’t worry yet! It may still happen, hope you have a lovely time when you go.
