Bringing forward the second dose for the over 50s

Following yesterday's announcement, they will be reducing the time interval for second doses for the over 50s from 12 to 8 weeks I rang the 119 vaccination line. They have only just got that info and at the moment the system won't allow them to change the date. The very friendly operator said that will be happening shortly and that folk will be contacted in due course. They need to update their website as well to explain the procedure!

I'm not expecting to move mine and it is only in two weeks time. I wonder if this change is to get all over 50s having their second dose by 21st June.

I just cancelled my 2nd AZ jab through the national booking as wanted to rebook for a more local centre and got offered slots at 8 weeks. Was end of July previously now booked for end of June. Also booked a second AZ dose for DH who had his first at a GP-led centre. He also got offered slots at 8 weeks. We are both 41. So it seems it's not only over-50s whose second doses are moving to 8 weeks.

I just tried to book my second dose through the national booking site and the earliest it offered me was 11 weeks. I'll keep checking to see if it changes, but will hope that my gp will call me sooner.

My 2nd was booked for the 16th June it got cancelled yesterday and then 5 mins later received another text and I am booked for next Sunday , 4 weeks earlier than I should

Twiglets1 · 16/05/2021 08:47

This is all quite stressful.

I had my second one booked for 31st May which was 11 weeks after my first. After hearing Boris announcement yesterday I cancelled it to rebook, and found that I was only being offered centres miles away in London (I live in Berkshire). I phoned 119 and they could only offer me an appointment in Berkshire on 31st May - my original date! The woman said to phone back next week.
I would have another go on the NHS website but it's too stressful having to cancel your appointment before you can see what else is available

Motherof3dogs · 16/05/2021 08:50

I got a text on Friday and had mine yesterday, Dh got a text yesterday to book - his second should have been middle of june

I saw another poster said they had cancelled and re arranged - and so I went off to do the same. But was too worried about cancelling then not being able to get another.

I note there is a message on their homepage saying they will contact all it affects so I am just going to wait.

I'm 60 this week. My 2nd jab is planned for 4th June - 11 weeks after the first one. I have lots of exciting birthday plans for the next 2 weeks - theatre in London, spa day, party (in the garden obviously), several meals out. So excited!
I booked my jabs the first day the system opened to people my age. No plans to rearrange the second appointment unless someone contacts me.

Twiglets1 · 16/05/2021 09:55

Yes I agonised over cancelling it @Furball and then panicked when it wasn't showing any avialability for me in the whole of Berkshire.

I think if I haven't had a text by about Wednesday I will phone 119 again.

I expect you will get a call/text well before 4th June.

I'm very keen to get my second as I work in a school and they arent' wearing masks anymore from Monday

Tribblers · 16/05/2021 10:20

I'm over 50, was booked in for second one 5th June. I cancelled and rearranged to 31st May (thought I'd try rather than waiting for the text).

Bit worried though as I got an email saying I'd cancelled, but nothing about the new booking. I took a screen grab of the new reference number, and also went back into the system to 'manage my booking' and it still seems to be there so I'm hoping it went through ok.

Furball · 16/05/2021 11:07

@Twiglets1 - Dh has now had a text to say re arrange, but I haven't, so we have both now cancelled and re booked for tomorrow.

@Furball

I just tried again on the website and managed to bring my date forward to this Wednesday which I'm very pleased about!

I have just done exactly the same, it did feel a risk cancelling but did it and now have my 2nd 18 May, also not had the confirmation text but screen shotted and rechecked on NHS online. 😃

@Twiglets1 - great news, glad you got it sorted ok

Thank you!

I was worried about having to cancel, but DH went through the GP initially, and I was able to book him for 8 weeks (he's 44) so I cancelled mine and was able to rebook for 8 weeks as well- I'm 43.
