Which vaccine for second dose if under 40 but had AZ as 1st?

Hi, I've searched and haven't seen a thread in similar, so was wondering if anyone knew the answer?

I'm 37 and had my first dose in March, which was AZ. Since then, all the blood clotting stuff has happened, and now under 40s are apparently going to be given an alternative vaccine - but I've not seen any concrete information about what this means for second doses. Just wondering if anyone knows or has been in the same situation?

Is it possible to have separate vaccines? Or will I get the AZ one second time round? Obviously i will be happy to be fully vaccinated, but it's hard not to get a little anxious after reading all the things in the news (I know I need to look at the bigger picture and remind myself any risks from the vaccine are much lower than risks from Covid etc). Just something I've been wondering about, as I'm due my next dose early June and curious about how it will works

You will be offered AZ for your second dose as the mixed vaccine trials aren’t finished yet.

Thanks. I didn't thing mixed doses were being done yet, but hadn't seen any definite info. I did see some study results indicating that side effects are worse when you mix jabs - no thanks, I felt rough enough after the last one 🤣

I'll just be so relieved to be fully done, but it's good to know what to expect :)

If you had AZ for your first, I believe you’ll have it for your second too.

You'll get AZ.If you had it in March and have been fine then I don't think you have much to worry about. Symptoms have usually been up to 4 weeks after the 1st jab

I'm a similar age and will still be having my 2nd AZ dose in June (unless they decide to mix by that time)

AZ

There was this exact thread just yesterday I'm sure, maybe it was deleted for some reason
As the above posters have told you, you can't mix and match

Fab, thanks everyone. I had a big long scroll @AllThatFancyPaintsAsFair and couldn't spot another thread, but might have missed it. Didn't want to repeat post. Thank you for the clarification everyone. I'm not all that concerned about side effects (but am prone to health anxiety, which is thankfully now well managed, but i do have to occasionally give myself a talking to :D ) Will be so relieved to be fully done, especially as I'm in the NW. Thanks again

@Nofriend

I’m being offered a different vaccine as I refuse to have 2nd AZ it is being done in some cases. Also France are offering alternatives to AZ for 2nd dose to those under 55.
How have you managed that? My GP has just brushed it aside every time I've mentioned it
Irishterrier · 16/05/2021 20:49

You have a higher chance of having a blood clot from Covid than from an AZ vaccine.

(I am double jabbed with AZ)
