If 2nd jab is booked, how will date be brought forward?

Following Boris saying 2nd jabs should be moved closer to the 8 week mark, if you already have your 2nd booked for the 12 week mark, what is the process for getting it moved forward?

Realise this is breaking news, but if anyone gleans any answers over the next few hours, it would be really useful.

Thanks.

I phoned my surgery to see if I could go in earlier, but they said they didn't have the vaccine I needed. So I phoned 119 to try and bring it forward but the woman there said she'd have to cancel my original appointment and then rebook, but it would probably only be 2 or 3 days earlier. As it's in 2 weeks anyway I've just left it.

Annoying though as I seem to hear all the time about surgeries having 'left over' vaccines that they want to give, but it hasn't worked like that for me.

I'm wondering the same - my second is booked for 5th June however 8 weeks from my first will be tomorrow. Will I still have to wait until June or will they contact me to bring it forward?

Hettylala · 14/05/2021 18:15

DH's second is 2 weeks on Sunday. We're in an area with really low cases so can't see any point in bringing it forward tbh. It would probably only result in him having it next weekend instead of the weekend after.

Aposterhasnoname · 14/05/2021 18:18

DH had his second booked, but had a text a couple of weeks ago with a link inviting him to book early. I expect it will be a similar process for the rest of us.

LIZS · 14/05/2021 18:20

I'm wondering that too. Mine is booked for three weeks' time but it is eight weeks since first this weekend. Dh recently had his eight weeks apart so maybe that is already in the pipeline?

TheAlphaandtheOmega · 14/05/2021 18:24

Mines booked for 8th June, 8 weeks is about now which isn't going to happen as I am on holiday from Monday, I hope they don't cancel my original appointment as I want to keep that one.

SixDegrees · 14/05/2021 18:45

My 2nd jab is booked for 4 weeks time.

I hope it’s not going to be cancelled.
DH had to book time off work so he can look after the DC while I go (thanks to the limited choice at the time for 2nd appointment slots).
He has to give at least 6 weeks notice to get time off work so it’s got potential to be really awkward if I can’t keep the original appointment.

TheAlphaandtheOmega · 14/05/2021 18:51

Hopefully there will just be an opportunity to change it if you want to, or just leave it as it is, if changing would be inconvenient, as people maybe have already made plans around their vaccination date.

Crunchymum · 14/05/2021 18:51

Where we are, we were mass contacted to book vaccine 1 and then the same for vaccine 2 (I was group 6, 2nd dose tomorrow, my dad was group 4 and second dose was a month ago)

I assume the system used by our area will just bring forward the mass contact for all those still waiting second dose.

I have found the answer to my own Q. It is here.

People don’t need to rebook if already booked in next 10 days. If after 26 May people should be contacted.

Thanks for finding this out - I've been wondering about it (second dose currently booked for 5th June)
Babyroobs · 15/05/2021 12:16

my second one is booked for June 2nd. As it's only a couple of weeks away I will just wait . If they contact me earlier then obviously I will take that appointment.

Pinotwoman82 · 15/05/2021 12:34

My 2nd was mid June, I took a gamble cancelled it and managed to rebook for next Monday

GeorgeandHarold66 · 15/05/2021 12:57

Mine was brought forward. I had a booked date, got a text with a link from my GP surgery inviting me to rebook an earlier slot. The only thing is, I just sort of found out for myself how to cancel the old one, it isn't difficult but I'd be concerned that if they're not clear enough it'll result in a whole load of no shows.

Frazzled2207 · 15/05/2021 15:22

Is anyone under 50 able to change to the 8 week gap? I know not officially but in practice?

LIZS · 15/05/2021 16:29

Thanks @WombatChocolate , hopefully will hear to reschedule in due course.

Babyroobs · 16/05/2021 15:30

Mine was booked for 2nd June. I've just had a text this morning saying I can now book earlier. Not sure I will.
