Away for a month when 2nd dose of vaccine due, what to do?

I am due to have my vaccine next week, but now it looks like I will have to be abroad for work for a solid month in +12 weeks time which means I can't have my second dose then. I'm finding little info regarding leaving a longer period between doses (would be 16 weeks.) Not sure if I should delay the first dose in order to have them 12 weeks apart? But at the same time keen to get vaccinated asap.

Go online or call 119 and try to rebook for before you go, otherwise to rebook for when you get back.

If you're going somewhere covid rates are higher, I'd have thought you'd definitely want the first jab ASAP.

I think they're offering second jabs sooner than 12 weeks now, though I don't know if that applies to all types.

11 weeks would be preferred to 16 because that's well tested now. Should be fine for AZ, but not sure if that's a bit long for Pfizer/ Moderna; Canada are doing 16 weeks but too early to know yet.

I’m also due to be away the week of my second jab.

On trying 119 as suggested by a friend they said they were unable to help as “the computer only offers them the same appointment” as it offers me I.e. in the week that I’m away.

Their suggestion was to wait until after the date had passed and then try to book. Confused

I had mine 10 weeks apart. Could you have it before you go?

tam23 · 13/05/2021 19:21

Have the first one, then use the online system to cancel and rebook the second one.

thanks, everyone! My second dose would be 8th of August if I have the first vaccine next week. (Away all of Aug.) Not sure what I will get but I am under 40 so assuming an alternative to AZ.

Going away in 3 months @ErrolTheDragon so doesn't make much difference in terms of travel, but would want it asap just for general sake here in the UK.

Think I might just wait 3-4 weeks to have my first dose then. Thanks for all the input!
