Has anyone else noticed less people wearing masks?

I’ve noticed it more and more the last week or so, but today I went in 3 shops and in each one there were probably around half the people not wearing one, whereas before it was around 90%. Have I missed a rule change where they’re no longer compulsory? Or maybe there’s just more exempt people going out.

Yes, it went from the people who refused to wear them, to people refusing to wear them properly, then for a while I don't think I saw a single person without one in the shops and basically everyone seemed to have got thw hang of how to put them over their nose (a surprising number people seemed to struggle with that), and now I'm seeing more people not bothering again. Not that many, but a few. To be honest I can't wait to not have to wear them.

PurpleDaisies · 12/05/2021 16:25

No, there’s no change here.

PurpleDaisies · 12/05/2021 16:26

No, there’s no change here.

XenoBitch · 12/05/2021 16:51

I haven't noticed, no. But I would hazard a guess and say that maybe people who have had the vaccine think they are safe so are not bothering to wear them anymore.

onemouseplace · 12/05/2021 16:54

I have noticed far fewer people wearing masks outside, but the vast majority are still wearing them in shops and on public transport where I am.

vodkaredbullgirl · 12/05/2021 16:55

No not noticed.

Thanks for the replies, wasn’t sure if it’s just my area. @XenoBitch this makes sense 👍

It's all the vaccinated people not giving a damn about those of us still waiting.

TruelyWonder · 12/05/2021 18:03

Yes definitely less people wearing masks about here.

Our primary has a whole year group out with covid. The headmaster is not amused he has to keep reminding parents to wear masks in that playground. He is normally pretty relaxed but we know others could be infected in the school community. He doesn't want more kids off than necessary

Topseyt · 12/05/2021 18:06

No rule change. Sadly, they still have to be worn in shops.

I wear mine where I really must but I hate it and can't wait to see the back of the fuckers. I can't say I really pay any attention to whether others are wearing theirs or not. I couldn't give a shit about that.

kowari · 12/05/2021 18:07

I haven't noticed, but perhaps more exempt people who were too afraid of abuse to not wear a mask before are feeling more confident? As more people stop wearing them then people who are struggling may feel able to go out without one Smile.

ShakespearesSisters · 12/05/2021 18:10

In places where they are worn there is good compliance here.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 12/05/2021 18:13

No. No change at all! Compliance is high, most people even manage to wear them properly.

An older lady in the Chinese takeaway last night felt she had to apologise as she came in. But everyone (all 3 of us) did that 'Mask Smile' eyebrow raise and I told her she didn't need to apologise or explain! She was quite happy with that!

BelleBlueBell · 12/05/2021 18:14

No, I havent noticed any difference in the number of people wearing them. If anything I see more people outside with them on

Devlesko · 12/05/2021 18:15

Nope, I've not noticed fewer wearing masks.

Roomba · 12/05/2021 18:17

I've noticed this in the last couple of weeks. It feels like people are deciding they don't need to bother anymore now that deaths are low and people are getting vaccinated. One fellow school mum said to me 'Well, we won't have to wear them anyway soon, will we? They're just being over cautious at the moment!'

It felt like one in three weren't wearing masks when I was in Lidl the other day. None of the staff were that I saw either.

user1487194234 · 12/05/2021 18:21

Does seem fewer people are wearing them, and that number will no doubt increase

coffeefi · 12/05/2021 18:32

I CBA any more with virtual signalling

C152 · 12/05/2021 18:41

Nope

Smileyoriley · 12/05/2021 19:21

Yes, particularly in less well heeled areas and more "affordable" shops.

kowari · 12/05/2021 19:24

@Smileyoriley

Yes, particularly in less well heeled areas and more "affordable" shops.
Guessing because more people with disabilities or who are otherwise exempt shop in affordable shops
OwlTwitterings · 12/05/2021 19:28

No change here but I only really go out on the school runs.

I agree that probably many people who waited to be fully vaccinated before venturing out and doing so now, which could increase the numbers who are exempt.

MrsMonet · 12/05/2021 19:31

Only in Primark. I was in there today and I estimated about 30% of people weren't wearing them. Everywhere else most people are.

Gymsmile21 · 12/05/2021 19:41

More people here not wearing them including myself now.

In winter it was ok for me to wear a mask as it didn’t affect me, now the air is warmer and not cold I can’t breath with one on and started suffering from attacks. Once the air is cold again in winter I will wear one again if I have too but I can’t in normal to hot temperature

minniemomo · 12/05/2021 19:41

Still full compliance here, outside less people wear them though
