Covid or a chest infection

Hey all
I basically came down out of nowhere with a chesty feeling on Saturday coughing up mucus yellow green never seen anything like it. Did an home test and it came back negative. I feel absolutely fine other than constantly having to clear this thick mucas that just keeps building up. Chest infection more likely or Covid?

Hope it was a PCR test you did and not a lateral flow. If it was only a lateral flow you need a PCR test.

It was a home test I got from the Covid testing centre

You need to do a PCR test

HazeyJaneII · 11/05/2021 19:15

If it was a lateral flow (ie you see the results in half an hour) then you need to get a proper PCR test (either order online or go to a test centre) and your household need to isolate until you get a negative result

I am going to but just wanting to know thoughts on what it sounds like ?

I had covid, zero chest symptoms. I’ve since had 3 nasty colds (thank you young children) with very productive coughs. No covid (I tested more than once with PCR tests). 🤷🏼‍♀️ No infection either, just cough & cold!

Sounds like a chest/throat infection. Call your GP if your coughing all that up you might need antibiotics.

TheVolturi · 11/05/2021 19:57

I had a chest infection in 2019 that started out of the blue, I was absolutely laid up for 3 weeks, it didn't shift until I'd had three courses of antibiotics. Clarithomycin zapped it in the end but made me feel terrible!
I think covid is supposed to be quite a dry cough?

Still worth doing a PCR test. Then maybe have an online appointment with gp. If it's a chest infection, you might need some antibiotics.

Thanks all I think it is a chest infection to be fair I’ve got antibiotics on pick up now
