Rule of six indoors, or two households?

Reading the news about the update tomorrow it doesn't seem clear whether it will be a rule of six indoors or two households of any size. Really worried about this as a family of five, it means only one of my parents can come at a time and my mum is unwell and doesn't drive. It would mean my stepdad bringing her then not being allowed inside. Does anyone have any idea what the rule will be?

It's apparently both. So you could have 2 households of 4 meaning 8 people. Or up to 6 individual people from different households.

And it's from May 17th. I wouldn't get worked up about it tbh people are doing whatever they want at this point.

Buzzinwithbez · 09/05/2021 12:02

Check the legislation. It's in step 3.

Frazzled2207 · 09/05/2021 12:05

Either/or I think
If you are a family of five and want both your parents to come over, that's going to be fine.

But tbh as long as you're not going to be taking the piss I really wouldn't worry. I'm planning a small birthday party for my son later this month, ideally it will be in the back garden but if not we will be in the house (about 10 people in total). Given that the children are coming to the party having been at school in the same class together, I'm going to be going ahead as long as the parents are ok with it (which they are).

or two households of 10 which would be 20.

2 households indoors ( of any size)
Or
Up to 6 individuals all from different households ( you could have 6 pals around)

Schoolchoicesucks · 09/05/2021 12:11

Is it the same rule for indoor hospitality? I've found lots of places won't accept online bookings for more than 6 people and wanted to book for 2 x households of 4.

rslsys · 09/05/2021 12:12

I think that should be 5 pals as you would be the sixth.

20viona · 09/05/2021 13:08

@Frazzled2207 yes obviously. I went for an easy number as OP is already confused.

Whatalottachocca · 09/05/2021 13:16

I think it's highly unlikely that someone's going to turn up at your house and do a headcount so I wouldn't worry.

Scottishgirl85 · 09/05/2021 13:43

I don't know the detail but goodness me after 17th let both your parents in!! Common sense must prevail Grin

Buzzinwithbez · 09/05/2021 19:56

The bubble arrangements still apply too. A Bubble = 1 household.

Lubiluxe · 09/05/2021 20:08

Even if it is rule of 6. Please just use common sense. I assume they sleep in the same bed. The risk is almost the same if one or both of them come in.

Katie517 · 09/05/2021 21:13

It’s rule of 6 or 2 households of any size the same as it is outdoors for now. Outdoors increases to 30.

But please just use common sense there is no science behind 6 it’s a number plucked from thin air. Also the 2 household thing means 2 student houses of 10 in each could meet as a group of 20 but I can’t have 7 from a few different households... we will be using our common sense and own judgment not paying attention to ridiculous numbers that make no sense

Venues near me have said that they will be sticking to 6 people max per booking as they have no way of verifying if 8 people (or any number more than 6) are from just two households.

How many are we allowed outside after may 17th in gardens ?

He can come inside - it would be crazy to not let him.

It says 30 people outdoors.
HolmeH · 09/05/2021 21:22

I’m in a bubble with my parents (making 6 of us) & we’ve met another household of 2 people in in cafes no bother. We’ve just explained where the bubble is & the other household. All good. 🤷🏼‍♀️ But I can understand it’s probably pretty hard to police!
