AZ vaccine and trying for a baby

Looking for advice from kind mumsnetters. I’m 41 and have my vaccine booked for the week after next. Assuming it’ll be AZ as that’s what they have been offering. But I’m now feeling confused as I’m also trying for a baby. Should I postpone it? If I do have AZ and then find out I’m pregnant before I have the second jab, will I not be able to have it?

I rang my GP for advice yesterday and the receptionist wasn’t helpful at all.

I’ve been so excited to get vaccinated but the new advice on AZ and pregnancy has made my head spin 🙁 any advice greatly appreciated. If I was 10 years younger I’d put off trying until fully vaccinated but obviously at my time of life, need to crack on!

AZ isn’t recommended for 40+ now, so you should be offered an alternative.

Plus I personally wouldn't try for a baby and have any of the vaccines at the same time

Originally they said if you were trying either delay that or having the vaccine. Something like give it a month either side of vaccine was the advice.

No idea if guidance has changed but there won't be any research on this yet. Though about 9 women in Brazil did get pregnant during one trial unexpectedly. Had no problems apparently. Can't remember which vaccine that was at the moment. Probably AZ as they had a trial there.

No way on earth would I have a vaccine and then try for a baby.

My ivf clinic said I was fine to have a vaccine close to treatment. She did say maybe don't do it within a week of transfer. I asked about 2 weeks ago though and she didn't mention anything about different vaccines. I'm under 40 so I think I'll wait it out and try and get a rare Pfizer appt. it's so tricky!

They are changing the booking system so under 40s and pregnant women can get the right jab. Apparently we will have more than 4 million jabs happening a week soon. Recently had around 950k of extra Pfizer deliveries each week. So you should be ok

I got my second dose during my TWW and I got pregnant that month. I would of had it even if I was pregnant because I'm in a high risk job. It can be quite dangerous getting COVID whilst pregnant so if you can have it before then i would

Thanks everyone. Lots to think about. It’s just so tricky.. if I was under 40, or actually pregnant, at least I’d get a choice of vaccine. So hard to know what to do for the best 😔

@TruelyWonder I knew about the new system but was worried there just wouldn't be enough of Pfizer to go around, so that's good to hear. Thank you.

@CassTheFox if I were in your shoes I'd just get the vaccine, ideally just when my period arrived. Although I work in a school so I do feel vulnerable.
