Does anyone have any info about Non-AstraZeneca Vaccination Sites in the South—Hampshire, Berkshire, Wiltshire, etc.? Many Thanks!

I'd like to know this too.

ellenpartridge · 08/05/2021 13:04

Think it just depends? I'm not far outside of Bristol and getting Pfizer next week

gluteustothemaximus · 08/05/2021 13:14

Someone on another thread said they called 119, and that to find out where the vaccines were, to then speak to their GP.

Is this at Ashton Gate ? We are trying to find out which vaccine they are using there on Tues 11th because a family member is being sent on a 90 mile round trip there. There are no appointments in our own hub, for 1st vaccinations.
pingalinga · 08/05/2021 14:41

Madejski Stadium in Reading has been giving Moderna over the past few weeks. Hopefully it still is.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 08/05/2021 14:42

I'm south Oxfordshire, and have an appt for second Pfizer on Wednesday. Was given no option at all on appt day or time, just sent an appt text with 'This cannot be changed' written on the bottom. All other places are AZ.

That was me! Annoyingly my GP is closed today, but if I don't get something other than AZ at my booked appt tomo, I'll be trying my GP on Monday. I just hope 119 are correct in what they said.

Madjeski was using Moderna on Tuesday last week....and from the day after, the 5th May, it had changed to AZ. This was reported on here by another poster last week.

Your surgery may also be able to inform you.

I fully understand that you don’t get to choose 100% which jab you are offered unless you meet the very narrow medical criteria—but I can control where I book the appointments so I would like to sway the odds in my favour as best as possible. I have a family history of clotting disorders and auto-immune issues so would like to avoid AZ if possible and within reason.
I had heard about Madejski Stadium, hopefully they will switch back to Moderna when they have more supply!

Jesus, there is no such thing as a 'non AZ vaccination centre'! Doses of vaccine are delivered to the vaccine centres depending upon their planned usage. They get what is available, mostly AZ as that is what the UK has purchased most of.

Please stop wasting NHS resources. Calling 119 and your GP to chase where the vaccines are being delivered is ridiculous.

If you have a clinical reason not to have AZ that will be determined through the clinical questions you will be asked at your vaccine appointment. You will then be offered an alternative. Be very clear, that is based on clinical need, not personal preference.

Lemons1571 · 08/05/2021 15:10

I had my second AZ last week, and beforehand was given a laminated list of “must not haves”. One of them was family history of blood clotting disorders. So worth speaking to your gp before you travel to a hub imo.

Dementedswan · 08/05/2021 15:18

@Lemons1571 do you know what happens if they say you can't have a 2nd dose?

Lemons1571 · 08/05/2021 15:30

No. I imagine you’d need to be deemed clearly at higher risk of blood clots though. They have criteria to follow to determine whether you really are at increased risk. If you meet the criteria, you might have to wait for a different vaccine if there’s none immediately available in your area for first doses.

I'm in scotland and have had 2 PEs, they didn't ask anything about this - as long as you're not on blood thinners they'll give you AZ which is what I got.

Hi. Can I ask which clinic this is please. Looking for a non AZ in or near Bristol.
Dementedswan · 10/05/2021 20:02

If a person has has to have blood thinners before do they let you go ahead with az?

No, what is ridiculous is having NO say which fucking vaccine is stuck in us. What the hell ever happened to 'my body, my choice'?
worriedatthemoment · 10/05/2021 21:10

@Blondiney well you have got a choice not to have it , we don't have enough vaccines to give a choice at present.
So people that don't want a certain one unless they meet the medical need will have to hope they get one they want or turn down if not one they want and wait.

I'm well aware of the situation and I'm choosing to wait. My issue was with the PP saying it was 'ridiculous' to try and get the vaccine you prefer and to basically accept whatever we're offered.
worriedatthemoment · 10/05/2021 22:13

@Blondiney not ridiculous to try and find where may be giving others but I don't agree on some people booking multiple appts then turning them down on the day as others could of had
That said my dh was given pfizer as first jab just over a week ago so they are still giving them , he was expecting az as thats what others had week before

MercyBooth · 10/05/2021 22:55

@Blondiney i think @ChequerBoard was just reminding us that lockdown was meant to teach us that the NHS is now to be oohed and ahhed at rather than us show any concerns about the organisation of something ppl sacrificed jobs and possibly homes to protect.

I guess that's precisely why people are going to lengths to find out which vaccine is being offered where, to avoid turning them down on the day. Not that that's any guarantee of course.

I booked twice through my GP text. Emailed the GP practice the week before to ask which vaccine it would be. Told it was AZ both times and promptly cancelled, leaving the slot free for someone else.

MrsFezziwig · 11/05/2021 12:07

From other threads it seems that there was a lot of Moderna being given at the mass vaccination centres over the last couple of weeks but then the supply seemed to become a lot more sporadic and was replaced by AZ again. I would have thought you will be able to get “not AZ” at some point, but not necessarily straight away and you will have to be flexible with regard to travelling (which it seems you are).

weegiepower · 11/05/2021 12:38

In Bristol and having second Pfizer this weekend, only one other person has had Pfizer I know of, everyone else in Bristol area has had AZ
