Just starting another thread as so much information still coming out. Interesting that Germany have just allowed AZ for all that want it.

Note, this is not an Anti-Vaccs thread. It is just a discussion about alternatives.
@Belladonna12 I’m not diagnosed with anti phospholipid syndrome, but have elevated lupus anticoagulant, which was found when I kept miscarrying. I took blood thinners through pregnancy, but don’t take anything day to day now which is why apparently I’m fine to have AZ. Sigh. Spoke to doctor back in late March when this all started to come out. Maybe I need to go back and try again.
Sorry forgot to quote your post just now.

Refer back to my earlier reply to you- I've now had my first Pfizer jab through my GP surgery due to positive lupus anticoagulant. Ring your GP!

Swimbikerunmummy · 18/05/2021 21:51

@InSpaceNooneCanHearYouScream thanks, that’s really helpful to know. Have appointment with gp tomorrow morning so will see how that goes...

Good luck-if you explain to the GP that due to the lupus anticoagulant you would rather not have AZ, which is perfectly understandable, they may hopefully be more helpful this time as there IS a readily available alternative. You have a valid concern.

Swimbikerunmummy · 19/05/2021 10:05

Well this doctor had same opinion. Take a vaccine. It doesn’t matter which, just get it done.

Oh for goodness sake! Angry. How bloody aggravating! Well in that case there's quite a bit of advice on here about how to find a centre offering alternatives
NotSoLongGoodbye · 19/05/2021 10:34

@Swimbikerunmummy
Don't see why so many of the medical professionals are dying in a ditch over this to be honest. Really don't see how such an attitude helps you. Surely they can accept that for some people the potential risks outweigh the value of a particular vaccine. Anyway, don't think there is much you can do other than keep booking appointments and then declining if it's not the jab you want. and don't feel bad about it - it is they system making you do this

jenthehen · 19/05/2021 10:42

I tried ringing 119 to book an alternative to AZ and was told I would only ever be offered AZ. I’m 49 with several autoimmune conditions. I’m now stuck between a rock and a hard place and it’s undoubtedly adding to my anxiety. Does anyone in the East Mid area know of a site offering Moderna or Pfizer to over 40’s?

skris11 · 19/05/2021 10:45

@Swimbikerunmummy Why don't you try askmygp? you can try different GPs there - I posted my concern there and I easily got Pfizer prescribed

QuietLurker · 19/05/2021 10:52

jenthehen I don't know about particular sites I'm afraid, but now that they're vaccinating under-40s and most of the AZ is being used for second doses it looks like lots of sites are offering pfizer or Moderna for all first doses whatever your age (that's happened to me and a few others in this thread anyway). It might be worth just booking somewhere and seeing what they're offering on the day? When I went yesterday there were separate queues for first and second doses, but not for age. All first doses got moderna.

jenthehen · 19/05/2021 11:10

@Swimbikerunmummy how do you access the askmygp service? It doesn’t look like my surgery use that system.

Anaphylaxis · 19/05/2021 11:13

Derby arena is doing Pfizer

randomsabreuse · 19/05/2021 11:26

I'm 39 (for less than a month more). Got strongly discouraged from getting the AZ jab today! Ridiculous variety of opinions. I'd have taken it without the active discouragement!

Don't take that to heart, that's just one unsympathetic person who is not actually stating the truth. Plenty of over 40s are getting Pfeizer or Moderna for first doses now. My GP practice is doing first doses this week for under 40s and everyone who books first dose there is getting pfeizer, even if you are older.
lcenii · 19/05/2021 12:04

@jenthehen I've PMd you although not sure if sent or not. Just had mine today and I'm East Midlands.

jenthehen · 19/05/2021 12:16

Thanks Anaphylaxis, was that available to everyone at Derby do you know?

Anaphylaxis · 19/05/2021 12:44

we were told there are two lines, one booked via GP and another one via Swiftqueue. They give out both AZ and Pfizer but both of us got Pfizer (I got last Thur and DH got yesterday). I know they give out AZ too as some ppl got asked whether driving, presume they got AZ and then there were bunch of ppl who got Pfizer and had to wait for 15min regardless.
lcenii · 19/05/2021 12:49

Do they update your details online and then tell you when to book the next one? Had mine done today but arranged with a surgery I'm not a patient of direct.

Elisandra · 19/05/2021 17:03

The Racecourse in Bath has Pfizer from today. I’m 48 and was given a first dose of Pfizer without having any underlying issues. Others, mainly older people, were having AZ. So it looks like they’re giving Pfizer for first dose, AZ for second.

jenthehen · 19/05/2021 17:09

I contacted my GP and they said they’d only offer me AZ but I could go on a list in case any Pfizer or Moderna became available....

lcenii · 19/05/2021 17:27

Wonder why some GPS are offering to book people in for an alternative and some are saying they won't consider it.

Bunbury952 · 19/05/2021 20:11

Well my plan worked. I just had Pfizer along with DH. There were no issues about his age as that’s all they were giving! 😅

Elisandra · 19/05/2021 21:13

Just saw you’re in SW, @Swimbikerunmummy, see my post above about Pfizer now in Bath, if you can get there.

AppleJane · 20/05/2021 06:59

I arranged with a surgery not my own and they said 'you'll come to us for your second too' so I'm hoping I'll be contacted directly. Yesterday I looked at the online system and it was showing me Aug dates so I'm happy they've updated my records.

AppleJane · 20/05/2021 07:16

@jenthehen I'm so sorry you're struggling to get an appointment. Does your surgery have the storage facilities for Pfizer? Mine told me they don't and would never have it. Could you ring other local surgeries and ask if you can be put on their lists too? You just need to talk to that one sympathetic person who can help.

jenthehen · 20/05/2021 07:42

They’re not being helpful in anyway, they are attached to a hospital which definitely does Pfizer but I don’t fit the criteria so it’s a no.
