How easy are people finding the national booking service?

I can't complete a booking because there are no clinics closer than 50 miles away for the second dose. Am I supposed to book a fake 2nd appointment just to get my first dose? Or leave it for someone who lives closer than me and keep trying (and trying, and trying...)

Today I got all excited when for the first time in over a week there were appointments in my home city. Except when I clicked on book appointment, there actually weren't any. The system also insists that I've missed my first appointment - that I haven't yet booked because there aren't any within 30 miles Confused

Alternista · 06/05/2021 19:29

No appointments within 60 miles here, first or second.

Spanglebangle · 06/05/2021 19:32

My first and second were both in the vaccine clinic nexr to my doctor's surgery. My partner was the same. No complaints here.

Marmite27 · 06/05/2021 19:34

We have a mass vax centre down the road. No one I know has had issues booking there, at drs or mini clinics that have popped up in various places due to demand.

soontobeanana · 06/05/2021 19:38

When I booked my first dose the option for the second dose was to have it at the same place or change venue - does it not give you the option to have both at the same venue OP?

ASimpleLobsterHat · 06/05/2021 19:40

Can’t get anything within 50 miles, and I live about 5 miles from a large vaccination hub Hmm. Occasionally appointments pop up there, but I can’t book them because it says there are no appointments available for the 2nd jab. Rather frustrating.

DisneyMillie · 06/05/2021 19:41

Nothing available in our county anytime I’ve checked but used it as an excuse for a day trip to London!

Soulstirring · 06/05/2021 19:43

Have you had a gp invite? If I go to the NHS site it offers me one 30 miles away. I got my text from my gp and followed that link and booked for the mass cas centre 2 miles from my home on Saturday today.

ASimpleLobsterHat · 06/05/2021 19:45

GP has invited me but has no availability at it’s clinic and doesn’t know when the next one will be.

Struckbylightning · 06/05/2021 19:47

I had this, I could book a 1st dose locally but the only second dose available was miles away (London) so I booked that. Then when I went for my 1st dose they told me to rebook the second dose by calling 119. I did this today and it was no problem at all, the nice man cancelled my London appointment and rebooked me in my home town.

Pascha · 06/05/2021 19:54

Our GPs have stated they aren't vaccinating under 50s, they are leaving it to the NHS hubs.

@soontobeanana there are no dates for any local clinics except one, and only one date for that. Nothing is listed for any future dates at all closer than London.

@Struckbylightning OK maybe I should just do that.

Oh ok Pascha - It must be just how different areas are handling it/have the resources. I was able to book as soon as my age bracket was allowed and there were so many slots available at a range of pharmacies and a mass hub - all less than 5 miles away. I am West Midlands.

BelleBlueBell · 06/05/2021 20:58

I found it super easy, lots of sites and dates to choose from

But I'm not near London and I expected to have to drive up to 30 minutes as I live semi rurally

It was possible to book different sites for the first and second jab although I will be having my 2nd one at the same place
