Anyone been given Pfizer or Moderna at the end of a vaccine clinic?

I'm booked in for my jab this evening at 7.30pm so will be one of the last appointments (small health centre). I'm expecting to have the AZ but wondered if anyone had been offered Pfizer or Moderna to use up leftover doses at the end of a clinic? I'll have whatever I am given but am interested to know if this happens

I can see that having happened a few months ago, but with the current extreme prioritization of Pfizer for second doses and medical necessities, I can't imagine there will be very many if any spares at all. You can but hope!

TheChineseChicken · 05/05/2021 13:54

Yes, you're probably right. You never know so I might ask when I get there

Is the clinic you're going to using Pfizer or Moderna in general?

I suppose it is possible if they are running a 2nd dose clinic for Pfizer at the same time and someone hasn't turned up, as it can't be stored until tomorrow.

Well, I was able to check this and was told that I would be given AZ if I booked via the national booking site (which I did) but if booked via my GP, I would be given one of two, depending on GP recommendation. So it sounds like they do have something other than AZ onsite for those who need it but I don't know if that is Pfizer or Moderna

There aren't many Pfizer's being done for first vaccinations, I wouldn't have thoguht, because they'd then have to have the odd one available for the second dose.

My DH appointment was 7.20 pm and only one other person was after him. He had Pfizer so I asked if there were any spare for myself, but I wasn’t in the age group that were being vaccinated at the time, if I was they said they could have given me one. I cannot imagine they were wasted and there were some people hanging around outside. I had mine 2 weeks later.

Thanks, I'll ask if there are any spare non-AZ doses. Can't hurt to ask. I'll let you know if I was successful!

I think the opposite is the case actually. I volunteered at a vaccine centre where they were doing Pfizer that day. Towards the end of the day the pharmacists didn't want to open another batch so the last few people were given AZ as that can go in and out of the fridge much more readily.

Definitely can't hurt to ask though.

Dil is a teacher at a local primary school, and spoke to her the other day. She said that the teachers who weren’t already vaccinated could go on the reserve list for nearest mass vaccination centre. (20miles away)
But would have to be able to get there after 7pm
The centre uses both AZ and Moderna.

She is under 30 so would only be able to have Pfizer or Moderna.

I went there last week and everyone was being given moderna for first dose, the Az was being used for second doses.
I’ve yet to hear of anyone having Az for thier first dose at that centre since Moderna was rolled out.

I’ll ask when I speak to her next if the other teachers on the reserve list were given Moderna or AZ

Where was this @JimBobNoJob

TheChineseChicken · 05/05/2021 19:40

Just been done! Didn’t feel appropriate to ask when I got in there so just cracked on with the AZ

I had Pfizer as there was several hundred left over at our location vaccination centre.

CimCardashian · 05/05/2021 23:58

I queued for 2 hours in April 10th for ‘left overs’. I had Pfizer (would have been happy to have anything though).

JimBobNoJob · 11/05/2021 10:36

Spoke to Dil on Saturday and she said no one that had been signed up for “leftovers” has been called yet. So either reserve list is quite long or there hasn’t been anything leftover to give. She and the other teachers signed up several weeks ago.
