Pfizer second vaccine side effects

Robinonaspade · 01/05/2021 19:12

Hi, I have looked to see if anyone has had a reaction to their second injection, where they feel really cold and have a bad headache that doesn't go off with paracetamols? I couldn't spot anything.

It's been a week since the second dose and these symptoms keep coming on without warning. Just looking for reassurance and others people's experience!

Thanks.

Imnotbent- thanks for that, he has described exactly what you have posted! Hopefully his system just taken a bit longer to kick in and he's passed it now too.

@notsomagic

Search Covid vaccine side effects groups on Facebook and you’ll see the true side effects. Very sad and shocking.
Don’t do this.

What a load of absolute shite. People who have the severest side effects will post on these groups of course but they’re a tiny, tiny snapshot of the whole picture- so many people have had these jabs with NO side effects at all. Including me.

Don't do this, but if you do want to look at actual data the side effects experienced are readily available on the gov website. I was quite surprised at the amount of different side effects experienced for each vaccine, by quite a large number of people too in some cases.
Robinonaspade · 02/05/2021 09:15

I agree with you Bagelsandabrie, I didn't intend to scaremongering or worry people, I'm definitely not going to go looking for bad side effects... Concerned about Dad enough, especially as I can't see him!

I just know, like many people, he was struggling in lockdown and as I've been indoors with little contact with anyone, wasn't sure of real life side effects symptoms as my Dad's seemed different to those noted on NHS website, and seemed to be a little delayed.

Hopefully he will continue to feel brighter and that vaccines help us all get back to some normal interaction soon.

Following as I have my second dose next week

Robinonaspade · 02/05/2021 09:16

Ah, not looked on gov website... Doh!

Thanks, will do that later if need be. At the moment I am stepping away from researching😊

Thank you @Robinonaspade I just can't decide whether to have it or not x

Robinonaspade · 02/05/2021 12:20

I feel its always a concern with any new vaccines or new medication that I need, but I try to reassure myself that the regulators in this country are very, very good and it wouldn't be given if unsafe. I spoke with my GP about my concerns and was reassured.

I've seen what covid can do to a previously healthy person, so I'm taking it... Doesn't stop me worrying about how we'd manage should I feel really rough for a week though 😀 Keeping my fingers crossed don't need to find out!

Hoping all goes smoothly for you too mrssunshinexxx

My mum had her second Pfizer a few weeks ago. After three days she started having vomiting and diarrhoea. The vomiting lasted three days; the diarrhoea lasted two weeks and she was really quite ill. That's the most extreme reaction I've read about... but it can happen. She contacted her GP for advice, and he said stay hydrated, it will pass.

Robinonaspade · 02/05/2021 17:14

tenlittlecygnets, sorry to hear your mum had such a rough time, hoping she's recovered now.

I know reactions can and do happen, it's worrying when they do. Everything is so new and can cause worry and anxiety, even though it's to help get back some normality.

I am expecting my second Pfizer vaccination very soon and a health professional friend told me some time ago that it is very common to have a reaction after the second Pfizer jab, while many people have experienced problems after the first AZ jab and not the second.

MusicMenu · 02/05/2021 17:34

Oh, I was supposed to have my second today but they cancelled because of an apparently contaminated batch. No idea what that means.

I was hoping that because, by fluke, I had the Pfizer one I'd get away with it. No side effects at all after the first.

Hsvejbkiav · 02/05/2021 17:39

I was surprised to have any side effects with my second Pfizer jab, as I felt nothing for the first. However 12 hours after the jab I woke up with chills and shivers and aches - just like proper flu. It's now 24 hours later and I'm still feeling rotten, but paracetamol helps.

The gov research shows that reactions to second Pfizer are common among under 50's because their immune systems are stronger and react in a more robust way.

x2boys · 02/05/2021 17:50

How long do the symptoms take to come on ,?I had my second Pfizer about an hour or so ago ,no side effects with the first vaccine.

Woodpecker22 · 02/05/2021 18:01

covid.joinzoe.com/post/covid-vaccine-data-lancet

We learned that around one in four people experience mild side effects from COVID-19 vaccines after receiving either the Pfizer or AstraZeneca vaccine, with headache and tiredness (fatigue) being the most common symptoms. Two thirds (66.2%) reported local effects in their arm after the jab, most commonly tenderness around the injection site.

Most after effects peaked within24 hours of vaccination and usually lasted 1-2 days.

indecisivewoman81 · 02/05/2021 18:08

I had my second one last week and felt really rough about 12 hours later. I had a bad headache, chills and shivering plus little pains in legs and back. Lasted 24 hours then felt fine again

Hsvejbkiav · 02/05/2021 20:31

@x2boys it was almost exactly 12 hours in my case.

PuzzledObserver · 02/05/2021 20:36

I had a mild headache, felt cold and tired - started 24 hours after the jab, fine the next day. Had slight tenderness at the injection site, whereas with the first dose I had swelling, redness and bruising.

I think that’s probably the luck of the draw - this vaccinator told me to relax my arm, and I did so just in time. Was probably tense for the first one as it was a drive through so I was resting my elbow on the window.

2018SoFarSoGreat · 02/05/2021 20:40

Second dose fine, not a symptom to be found. Same for DH. Was much worse after the 1st, although nothing bad. Strangely, my arm is a bit achy today on day 8!

doublemix · 02/05/2021 21:32

I had no symptoms other than a sore arm after first jab. I was really ill after the 2nd about 16 hours later I was shivering like crazy but my face was boiling hot, I had the worst headache for about 24 hours, nausea, joint pain and an upset stomach I felt really poorly like I had flu. I felt wiped out and tired for about 4 days after.

It was a bit of a shock as I was expecting such a bad response after having barely anything after the first. I really struggled to look after my 2 young kids the day after Confused

ShaunaTheSheep · 02/05/2021 23:55

After first I had the usual sore arm and a little tiredness.
Second dose, nothing immediately but 20 hours after I had the shivering and coldness described by others, took paracetamol and slept it off. After 48 hours, milder coldness and shivers. 72 hours on, my lymph nodes in left armpit and collarbone are swollen. As that's a recognised side effect I'll wait for it to clear up.

x2boys · 03/05/2021 09:52

So far so good, both myself and my DH had our second Pfizer injection yesterday about 4pm both fine so far fingers crossed 🤞

Robinonaspade · 03/05/2021 11:00

Interesting to hear everyone's comments, thank you. I hope every one gets over any symptoms soon. I appreciate the responses.

My Dad felt better yesterday and is fine today so fingers crossed.

First nothing just knew where in my arm I was jabbed slight tender disappeared next day.
Second same, next day all good. Weird how some get them and others don’t.
Other family members got AZ none for them either.
We are a healthy family no health conditions & none had covid virus. 🤷‍♀️
