I know it's a rounded value and not exactly 0, but how amazing is that? This is random sampling not case rates, so eliminates the effects of increased testing.

Given that I've seen far more elderly people out and about recently than in previous months this is presumably down to the vaccines.

The age 50-69 age group is 0.06% so not far off rounding to zero either.

Really heartening, we've not had a 0% before! :)

It's good news.

I had a suspicion that the government had moved to a zero covid strategy a couple of months ago without actually announcing it - for two reasons:

  1. Labour had suggested it first and the RW press were scathing about it.
  2. They couldn't guarantee it as there were so many unknowns and politically damaging to announce this and then about turn.

But it makes sense as there is no safe, controllable level of covid infections in the community.

Helps of course the wonderful data regarding the impact of vaccines on transmission, meaning that herd immunity is very much possible.

I've been very optimistic for the last couple of months that by the end of June we really will have beaten off this virus - at least in the UK.

Brilliant, vaccines work.

Rainbowsandstorms · 03/05/2021 23:31

This is great to see.

GreenTeaPingPong · 03/05/2021 23:32

That is really encouraging, fantastic!

TruelyWonder · 04/05/2021 00:24

Wonderful news🥳

Completely changing the subject. Long necked one have you seen any newspaper reports or mumsnet threads about hundreds of kids in hospital because of wearing masks at school. I haven'tGrin

How about those kids traumatised by LFT? Not heard of any needing therapy yet. Have youWink

noblegiraffe · 04/05/2021 14:55

No kids keeling over due to lack of oxygen at my school. The biggest issue with masks has been kids sawing the tops off plastic chairs with the strings (thanks, TikTok, for that one Hmm)

😂😂😂😂 Shouldn't laugh poor teachers but the little gits.

I really want to hear the parents excuse for that one. Something like

"Well the mask was making him anxious and he was doing it to help his anxiety. It is the government and the schools fault. My poor sweet child is being picked on by whichever teacher reported this"

noblegiraffe · 04/05/2021 19:40

Kids are nothing if not creative in their wanton vandalism.

People worrying that their delicate flower might faint at the prospect of a face covering should really have been worried about this.

Tbf, I would want to vandalise something if I had to wear a mask continuously all day!

In regards to the OP, that is great news.

TruelyWonder · 04/05/2021 21:35

Think you have nailed the parents response there

TruelyWonder · 04/05/2021 21:36

Tumbleweed I mean Grin

OnTheBrink1 · 04/05/2021 22:06

We haven’t had many hot days yet. On the odd day or two of hot weather (25 degrees) my 11 year old has come home with a banging headache from wearing the mask and being hot. She also has developed a red rash around her mouth where the mask has been (have tried several different types too) so although not keeled over, she finds them very uncomfortable, socially annoying and hard to hear friends and teachers properly

DipSwimSwoosh · 04/05/2021 22:27

Yes why are people still being so nasty about kids wearing masks? The thread wasn't even about that. Masks are grim and unnecessary and people are still really lacking in empathy about kids wearing them all day.

ssd · 04/05/2021 22:30

I'm in retail and wear a mask all day. Its hellish.

Anyway, great news op, thanks for posting.

TruelyWonder · 04/05/2021 22:34

Totally agree that masks are horrendous and wish teens didn't have to wear them all day. The eye rolling is at the hundreds of posts telling everyone kids would get lung infections or need therapy for life. Basically and sometimes literally calling schools barbaric for requesting students to wear masks etc

Wellbythebloodyhell · 05/05/2021 06:38

It's good to see a downward rate of infection in all age groups not just those who are vaccinated shows that even just partial population vaccination benefits us all
