Don’t want WFH to end

Vaccine roll out has just ramped-up here so I expect we’ll be back in the office at least partially from June. I am dreading it. I am really happy working from home. I don’t want to go back to the office.

My role is pretty senior so I’ll can’t swerve it.

I walk the kids to school, in jeans, chat to my husband in between calls, see the kids when they get in, don’t have to bother with work clothes or make up or putting your bloody game face on. I much much prefer presenting online HATE doing it f2f.

As an introvert, I am more than fine Witt the current set up.

My heart goes out to those struggling with wfh, but really I feel gutted it might end soon.

Sad

Me too think we will be back by July -August gutted

boon · 26/04/2021 23:05

Im the same. Dreading it 😔

Pinkbrush · 26/04/2021 23:06

Me too. I have really loved it. I’m less tired and generally happier because of it.

0blio · 26/04/2021 23:06

Me too. I'll have to get up an hour earlier in the morning, make myself look presentable, make stupid small talk which I find so distracting when I'm trying to concentrate, and share a printer with the whole office. I didn't think I'd enjoy working from home but I really do. I'm an introvert too OP and find workplaces are definitely organised around extroverts' needs nowadays Sad

Hardbackwriter · 26/04/2021 23:08

I really haven't enjoyed full-time working from home but for this exact reason you have my sympathy, OP - it's not nice to be forced to work in a way you dislike when you've been in a pattern that works better for you and that you're used to. I think a lot of employers (including mine) will retain at least some degree of working from home, so if you really value it would it be worth looking for a new job? An advantage of looking for a job to be done from home is that you can cast the net much wider than you would otherwise!

Dazedandconfused10 · 26/04/2021 23:09

Currently looking for a 100% remote role incase work don't let me WFH atleast 2 days a week going forward.

Sloelydoesit · 26/04/2021 23:14

You have my sympathy too. I know many like this. I'm really bad at changing routines and now I have a WFH one I find it hard getting up earlier when I go to the office.
However, the lack of getting up, getting out and walking has definitely affected me more.
And I have loved seeing people at work. I'm going to ramp up gently!

allthegoodusernameshavegone · 26/04/2021 23:18

Is there anyway you can compromise op, I am now wfh 2 days in office 3, I’m really happy with my split this will now be our new normal.

AnnaSW1 · 26/04/2021 23:26

Me too. Luckily we can carry on at home for now and no short term plans to return.

MixedUpFiles · 26/04/2021 23:27

DH used it as an excuse to negotiate a permanent wfh arrangement. It worked because he had no team members in his local office anyway.

I negotiated wfh 12 years ago. It’s wonderful for introverts with detail focused jobs. I’m glad you have had the chance to experience how well it can work.

While my office is bringing people back, they are going to be much more generous with wfh policies going forward, even for support staff that were previously required in office daily. Perhaps you will be able to influence a more flexible policy going forward?

scrivette · 26/04/2021 23:30

I am exactly the same, I am hoping everyone goes back very slowly.

HmmmmmmInteresting · 26/04/2021 23:34

I love WFH too, though I don't think I'd like to do it 100% of the time. I also much prefer virtual meetings than f2f. Seems crazy that people used to travel to places to meet f2f when the technology was there all the time to do it virtually

Torvean · 26/04/2021 23:36

I'm sorry but I want things as back to normal as possible. I want to see a Gp or other hp. I want to see people's faces. I want to travel.

I'd passed my final straw last year. In Scotland we've just had 4 months locked down. I'm fully vaccinated. I want my life back. This isn't life, this is just existing.

I don't think people are saying they want lockdown to stay though. I love wfh but I still want to go out to shops, pubs, concerts, sports games, it's just the wfh I want to keep. Luckily I can, although I'll probably do a mix.
asd99 · 26/04/2021 23:53

Me too! I’ll have to wake up 2.5 hours earlier than I do now and my morning commute is over 1 hour. Sad

Dazedandconfused10 · 26/04/2021 23:55

@Torvean I want life to go back to normal aside from work, I got a promotion this past year working remotely so surely its clear I do not need to be in the office to be successful

Torvean · 27/04/2021 00:00

Yeah but who all gets to wfh. I really need a medical test that I can't get due to the staff WFH. I need to actually see health workers.

I'm sure some jobs can be done from home.

There's others now that I feel should be back in some capacity.

I mean dentists are doing procedures but all other HP are doing everything over the phone.

PrincessNutNuts · 27/04/2021 00:03

Post-pandemic I don't think there is much justification for insisting someone works either in the office or from home if they are happier and more productive doing the opposite.

My boss doesn't tie his plans into this government's premature pronouncements so we have a WFH review next Spring and we'll start bringing people back who want to be in the office when it is safe to do so.

Torvean · 27/04/2021 00:04

Sorry I mean community hp. I know nurses have been doing bloods throughout.

I suspect the OP and most of the other posters are in typically office based jobs which can be done without detriment 100% from home.

I’m with you OP, if I couldn’t work the majority of the time from home going forward I’d be looking for a new role.

MilduraS · 27/04/2021 00:24

Me too! I'm back in the office two days a week already but don't want to go back to 5 days Sad My employer has already made it clear that WFH will not be considered for our department. People from other departments keep pretending that they're jealous I'm back in the office and I don't believe them. I'm sat on Teams calls talking through a sweaty mask while they're at home with their coffees.

KatherineOfGaunt · 27/04/2021 00:35

YANBU. I had a heady five weeks of wfh last March/April before returning to school (teacher). It was bliss! I went for a walk with my toddler every morning and was back at my desk for 9am. Then it was back to 7am and I'm out the door to work because I have to be there before 8am.

I would absolutely make a move to a job where I could wfh if I could financially do so.

So you want the luxury of wfh and later start, no commute etc while people in hospitality, retail etc have no choice at all?

RangerOnCall · 27/04/2021 00:59

I can't do my full job from home and everyone at my work has continued to work. I'm CEV so had to work from home. 3 days at work and 2 days at home would be great.

Somethings, like team meetings have been a game changer from home.
