If you had side effects with the first dose, how did your second go? I’m a bit nervous!

I had the AstraZeneca vaccine (no regrets!), but had the typical flu, unwell, had to go to bed for 24 hours, side effects after. Then I had a headache that lasted a long time after - so long that I even rang the doctor about it. And I have been more tired than usual ever since. (About a month.)

Anyone have these kind of side effects with the first? If so, how was the second dose? Should I expect more of the same?

I've had my second today so can update later. Was pretty unwell with my first one

thenightsky · 01/05/2021 18:54

I was really poorly with my first AZ and spent 24 hours in bed, drifting in and out of sleep/nightmares. Had awful muscle cramps so my neck got stuck and a headache from hell.

2nd jab 10 days ago - fine, just a sore arm for about 5 days.

Bookshelfer8 · 01/05/2021 20:25

That’s reassuring, nightsky! I’m glad you’re better with this one!

Good luck, queen! I hope you don’t have any side effects.

I keep remembering mine and feeling scared to go back - the fever, headache, and the weird burning sensation in my arm. Freaked me out!

I have a slight headache and feel a bit.. blah. Not feverish or anything but just feel off

Katyy · 02/05/2021 08:53

Hi, back to report. I had my second vaccine Friday 9am fine all day, then he headache started during the night, lasted all day yesterday, paracetamol didn’t help at all.
Spent most of the day in bed. At least it wasn’t as bad as the first dose where I had nausea, diarrhoea and shivering too. Feel much better today thank god, hopefully that’s the last one.

QueenPaw · 02/05/2021 10:28

Second definitely not as bad but still had a rough night, nausea, headache, temperature/shivering
Feel ok now, just tired

Bookshelfer8 · 16/05/2021 18:51

Bumping again as my next vaccine is tomorrow. Gulp!!

Any other updates? Good or bad?

Crap after first dose, no side effects after second dose.

Bookshelfer8 · 16/05/2021 19:06

That’s good, purple!

No side effects at all after the second AZ jab (despite feeling pretty unwell with the first).

Noapplejustcrumble · 16/05/2021 19:23

@Bookshelfer8 good luck tomorrow. Do you still feel tired from your first jab? Mine was 5 weeks ago and I'm still very tired.

Bookshelfer8 · 16/05/2021 19:47

noapple I can’t tell anymore. I am still sleepy and foggy after lunch, but I don’t know if it’s related or not. The post viral headache and exhaustion feeling has gone, but I don’t know if my afternoon tiredness is something else.

The side effects lasted a long time with me though, which is why I’m dreading the second!

Feel better after hearing most were fine!

I was fine after my second! My first I had a massive lump in my arm for weeks that was hot and painful, my arm felt like it weighed about 20 stone Hmm I had a headache and felt hungover the next day but that was it. the second one I my arm was tender for about 24 hours and that was it!

Bookshelfer8 · 17/05/2021 17:28

Had my vaccine!

I’ll report back tomorrow on how I feel. Honestly quite nervous as I felt so rubbish for so long with the first. Really don’t want that again.

Both relieved it’s done and a little anxious!

Had mine yesterday morning, brought forward by a month (text msge notification of the change of date last Friday). After the first I was poorly for weeks, lots of inflammation in my chest and back. After this one... felt OK apart from a headache most of yesterday, then aches and pains kicked in. Not slept a wink and been shivery and achey all night. Feel kind of wired and v sorry for self. Why me? 🙁

Chesneyhawkes1 · 18/05/2021 04:51

Felt ill for a few days after the first. Fine after the second. AZ.

baroqueandblue · 18/05/2021 04:51

@Bookshelfer8 hope you've had a good night, can only be a positive sign if you have 🤞

baroqueandblue · 18/05/2021 18:53

Just reporting back 😊 After a bad night I've spent most of the day in bed, sleeping on and off. Right now the aches and pains have mostly subsided and feeling more energised, but still a bit wobbly on my feet!

OodieWoodie · 18/05/2021 18:59

I'm interested to see this thread. I had my first AZ dose last week and honestly I am considering not having the second dose because I have felt so rotten. I've had shivers, temperature, vomiting and diarrhea. I still feel rundown now almost a week on.

It doesn't help that everyone else keeps telling me they were fine with the vaccine and it's just me. Hmm

Frustratedbeyondbelief · 18/05/2021 19:28

Had first AZ in Feb. Put me in bed for 48 hrs. I had done enough research to e pert this . I am on the ECV list due to compromised immunity so it was logical to me... second one . Nothing except a slight bruised feeling to my arm for about 10 minutes.

SummerWillow · 18/05/2021 20:01

Felt fluey for 48 hours after first AZ vaccine. Had 2nd last week and felt a bit achy after 24 hours but nothing much and was gone overnight.

SummerWillow · 18/05/2021 20:04

Apparently the younger you are, the more likely you are to get a bad reaction to the first AZ. My DD1 had a very high temp, chills etc but nothing at all for the second (she had it as has severe learning disabilities).

CoffeeWithCheese · 18/05/2021 20:58

Was fine - mild headache that went with a paracetamol and then the only thing I had was an annoyingly long period which may/may not have been coincidental.

Bookshelfer8 · 20/05/2021 08:38

Reporting back! I had my second jab on Monday and it’s now Thursday and I had absolutely no side effects whatsoever. I have been waiting for them to appear, but none have.

(Well, apart from a sore arm.)

Good luck to those who are waiting - I hope you avoid the side effects too!! I was so nervous and really didn’t want to get the second jab, but it was completely fine.
