Can you legally mix vaccines in the UK??

I’ve read somewhere that this can be done but only in exceptional circumstances. I appreciate they’re still in the testing stages of all this but any ideas what an ‘exceptional circumstance’ is?

My mum suffered temporary amnesia 3 days after her first AZ dose and doesn’t want the second incase the two were linked (even if it was coincidence the doctors can’t assure her that 100%).

Are there any guidelines or anything out there telling doctors how to proceed with this sort of situation does anyone know? Is an alternative jab an option here?

At the moment you currently can't.

However the clinical trials are happening to see if it is OK to mix them.

This is because they want to give everyone any jab when we need boosters.

Well you are asking more than one question.

The UK did issue guidance that allows an alternative vaccine to be offered in defined circumstances. This is set out in the Green Book on second doses. You can Google it and find the information.

Whether any of that is relevant to your mother will be down to a clinician.

How old is your mum? They were looking for volunteers for the trial of mixing. Not sure whether they have all the people they need.

The OPs mother needs clinical advice. If she had a severe reaction then she will be put on an allergy pathway. They will provide proper clinical advice and supervision around the vaccine she receives.

Thanks all. Yes she’s seeking clinical advice but she’s getting conflicting responses. I just wanted to ask if anyone on here knew any published info on the matter which I might’ve missed.

@TheQueenIsDeaf this link is great thank you. She’s point blank refusing a second AZ vax which I can understand as no one can guarantee it didn’t cause her amnesia, that’s fuelled by other reports as well, all the same timeframe as her. I wonder if they’ll offer her an alternative oppose to her not being fully covered which is their only other option.
