On the 21st June is that it for good?

I find this hard to believe tbh, will absolutely all restrictions end on June 21st? So no more restrictions on our lives apart from masks and SD? So we can go back to normal like it was in 2019?

I've been all for the lockdowns etc so this isn't coming from a wishful thinking place but I have to say it appears to me to pretty much mean that yes all restrictions will end - or at least be the most 'normal' we've had since last year

it also seems that thanks to the vaccinations being such a success and numbers staying low that none of the stages will be delayed at all.

I've been watching the numbers and been surprised and delighted with how it's been going. We are already statistically at herd immunity (on percent of population alone, doesn't quite work in practice til all of the working population is done) and by June we should be well into true herd immunity, heading towards under 25's being vaccinated.

@CarrieBlue

I'd like to think so, if people can be crammed together in a hot sweaty environment shouting and singing and dancing then there's no need at all for our dc to be sat wearing a mask in school

Those people crammed in a nightclub will be vaccinated. Those wearing masks in schools will not.

Nightclubs set to open around the 21st june and you think the people most likely to frequent such places are going to be the ones who are vaccinated 🤣🤣🤣🤣 oh OK 👌

How do you know they'll be vaccinated?

If nightclubs reopen in June (and it's a big 'if'), surely the hands/face/space thing can't apply. Dancing in a mask at a distance of 2m just isn't feasible.

Sorry but I just can't imagine that all teenagers/those in their 20s will be vaccinated by June. Not gonna happen.

No I doubt they all will be. But there will likely be restrictions on night clubs opening such as having to be vaccinated or take a test before entering.
initialismsarekey · 18/04/2021 12:18

They won't be vaccinated.

I'm in the category that's just gone live and it's been a nightmare trying to get an appointment which is local. Think it'll be a while before they open it up to younger people

Wellbythebloodyhell · 18/04/2021 13:59

If we are working on the assumption that those who are likely to go to nightclubs will be vaccinated they wont but let's just go with it for arguements sake then it means that all adults will have been offered a vaccine at that point so our dc won't need to wear masks as the wider community our germ riddled dc pass their diseases too won't be able to catch it from them and our dc can live freely passing round the germs that don't seriously affect them. When adults don't need to wear masks in enclosed spaces whether that be a nightclub, restaurant , shop or workplace then neither do my kids

I think the genie is out of the bottle
Boris has said 21 June. That’s the date lots of people have in their minds for this to be ‘over’
When we get to 21st June it’s going to be impossible to back track
People are already quietly ignoring the rules
My receptionist at work is already battling with the ‘I don’t need a mask I’ve been vaccinated’crowd.

It’s only April. End of June is going to be ‘interesting’

Arrowheart · 18/04/2021 14:39

Reading this thread it is as if some people just love all the restrictions and never want life to get back to normal. Covid isn't the only thing that kills people yet some people would like us all to believe it is.

savethegrannies · 18/04/2021 14:46

@GalesThisMorning

I've been reading on MN that people won't comply for much longer for about a year now. And yet they keep complying, for the most part. The mass resistance movement that some people on here keep waiting for just isn't coming. Basically, if everything around you is closed, you are sent home to work and your kids are off school, you're kind of forced to comply. You can refuse to wear your mask properly or do whatever protest measures float your boat, but you'll mainly comply with future lockdown measures.

Sorry!

I think this may be something to do with criminalising peaceful protests and huge fines or jail terms for people breaking the rules. You know, like they do in Totalitarian states...

I think the issue will be in the guidance / regulations around activities, rather than the activities themselves not happening.

So e.g. nightclubs will be open BUT e.g. negative LFTs will be a condition of admission and maximum numbers will be set; theatres will be open BUT masks will need to be worn; large sporting events in the open air will be possible BUT there will be some form of condition around vaccination or LFT or both; international travel will be possible BUT negative PCRs are required before departure and on arrival.

A bit like schools are open BUT masks are being worn, there is no assembly and a positive test triggers self isolations amongst close contacts or pubs are open BUT everyone must sit down, be outside and order and drink at thier tables [examples of restrictions are for illustration only]

My guess is that, if we do get further loosening on June 21st - and I don't think that's automatic - we will get more places open, more normally BUT with some measures still in place (probably some kind of evidence of negative tests and / or vaccination) for those activities that pose the greatest risk.

cantkeepawayforever · 18/04/2021 15:12

So, exactly as Boris said - premises will be open and restrictions will be FURTHER EASED but not removed entirely.

Compliance is fading and not due to rebellion but simply because it’s just feels like enough is enough now.

I met up with 4 of my best friends earlier and we haven’t been together as a group for well over a year and it was just amazing. We were hugging, sitting close together and reminiscing for hours. It started off with us at a local park (with one woman having bought her two children) but it ended with everyone in my back garden, with a total of five children there too. We had such a lovely time, it was the first time in I can’t remember how long were I felt genuinely happy and smily and thinking how normal things felt.

None of us felt like we were doing anything ‘wrong’ on a personal level, it was simply just that we had missed each other and wanted some social contact and fun.

We weren’t purposefully rebelling or being defiant, it was nothing like that, we just wanted to see each other because after so long of being separated from each other we just wanted life to feel normal.
