Open to anyone over 50 who had one dose of Pfizer or Astrazeneca: comcovstudy.org.uk/participate-comcov2 MNHQ edited to correct link

I went to sign up, but it's over 50s only.

I would prob sign up to this too but also under 50. Though worth pointing out you don’t get to choose what you get!

MRex · 14/04/2021 08:12

True, but they're all great vaccines, I'm happy with any.

Ooh, I might do this! Happy to help with anything that furthers knowledge.

Umbivalent · 14/04/2021 08:18

Oh blast, it's London only.

FlattestWhite · 14/04/2021 08:33

what if you were 49 when you got the vaccine (group 6) but 50 now, wonder if they'd accept you? I suppose they probably aren't accepting Group 6 people anyway.

Interesting idea though. Moderna is meant to be a bit better against SA variant, isn't it? Don't know much about Novovax yet though, has it even been approved? What it like against variants or have the trials not investigated that?

FlattestWhite · 14/04/2021 08:43

oh, if it's London only, not sure they'd take me, bit too far.

Just looked at one set of results and novovax is 55% against SA variant on that measure, not sure how that compares to the others. I had Pfizer the first time, and it seems to not be very good against SA in some data, but OK in others, so who knows.

nickymanchester · 14/04/2021 09:19

Should just let people know that this is London only

MRex · 14/04/2021 09:50

Sorry, my mistake with the link, it doesn't look to be London only here: comcovstudy.org.uk/participate-comcov2.

Interesting. I’ve signed up, but I’m not sure whether they’ll be interested once they see my list of medical conditions.

TheDogsMother · 14/04/2021 09:59

Would love to do it but I am outside of the area. I would be happy to travel but that doesn't seem to be an option unfortunately.

rainbowunicorn · 14/04/2021 10:24

@Lalalablahblahblah

Anyone know why it's for over 50s only? Not that I've had my first dose anyway, I'm just curious!
I would imagine it will be because over 50's will have had their 1st jab and they will want to get the trial moving so will be wanting people that are due their 2nd jab which will save time. They will be hoping that the trials work well and people that are due to get the 1st dose in the next few months will then be able to get the 2nd with a different vaccine if it is successful. There is no point delaying things by getting a whole load of younger people applying, who for the most part won't have had any jab yet. It will just delay the trial.
mrsknottschicken · 14/04/2021 11:03

This is a really interesting trial, especially if they find out that mixing and matching vaccines gives better protection. I would sign up but I am under 50.

RoseWineTime · 14/04/2021 12:18

I’m in the original version of the Com-Cov trial and have had 2 jabs - either 2 Pfizer, 2 AZ or one of each! It’s very well managed and I’ve been going for weekly blood tests to look at my antibody response. If they discover a particular combination doesn’t provoke a good response then they will recommend a booster. It all feels very safe.
