Corona deniers & Qnon followers

Is it worth trying to argue with corona virus deniers and followers of Qnon or am I wasting my breath and winding myself up in the process? Sick to death of being told to do my research, stop being a sheep and suffering from cognitive dissonance

You won't change their minds.... I'd not waste my breath!!!

It's very annoying, someone I know well is a covid denier. I avoid discussing anything covid with him as it winds me up, I have even avoided him as just seeing him and knowing his views winds me up. (I work in a care home and have seen first hand the devastation covid causes!!)

Terracotta9 · 13/04/2021 21:39

I think you are probably wasting your breath.

And I say that as someone who is cynical about the pandemic response and believes that many of the decisions made by government are motivated by disaster capitalism rather than in the interest of public health. Not a denier or Qnon though.

ShinyGreenElephant · 13/04/2021 21:41

Yep, they're all thick beyond belief and very defensive of their nonsense views. They will just repeat the same boring claptrap at you if you try so I wouldnt bother trying to engage

ceilingsand · 13/04/2021 21:47

Don't bother. I've deconstructed various videos full of provable lies sent by a relative. They back off then send another one a week later.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 13/04/2021 21:50

It’s a waste of time one on one. The only time it might be worth the effort is if it’s a ‘posting for the lurkers’ situation where there are onlookers who might be convinced either way.

Barbadosgirl · 13/04/2021 21:51

I do find it almost fascinating. I get questioning the response and the policies of the government but the people that really think it is not real...how many people would have to be in on that scam?!

Torvean · 14/04/2021 02:58

Waste of breath. We are all just afraid and sheep.

This is all part of a great reset that was written on Georgian stones.... hiw do you argue with that.

If the start with Woke or woke is in the sentence I also save my time.

AlecTrevelyan006 · 14/04/2021 03:04

To be fair - very few people change their mind about anything

Most people think they are right about most things most of the time

RainbowCrayons · 14/04/2021 03:06

Agree, if they are talking about lizard people and 5G and Bill Gates' Microchips then they are too far down the rabbit hole.

If they are talking about how the government used behavioral scientists to make people more afraid for themselves to increase compliance with the regulations, maybe reconsider what you consider conspiracy theory.

SaskiaRembrandt · 14/04/2021 05:46

Don't waste your breath, you won't change their minds. Their belief doesn't waver even when Q's predictions don't come true, so there is no point trying to apply reason and logic. Effectively, it's a belief based on faith rather than facts.

chatw00 · 14/04/2021 06:13

Qnon are something else - it's quite fascinating.

I recently read that one of their theories was that JFK Junior (died 20 years ago) wasn't really dead and was going to 'stage a comeback' to become Trump's running mate/VP in the last US election.

I mean, how would you even start to create that fantasy in your mind?

Rosehip10 · 14/04/2021 06:36

No, they are airheads.

hodgebit · 14/04/2021 06:46

I was fruitlessly arguing with someone on Twitter who seemingly genuinely believed that Trump was still in power but was allowing Biden to pretend to be President on a White House film set in Hollywood so people could see how corrupt Biden was...and that all of a sudden, Trump will make a triumphant return in the coming weeks.

DianaT1969 · 14/04/2021 06:46

The one I know who became a Covid conspiracy theorist this year has never been an informed person when it comes to news - she watches trashy TV and reads very little. However, she always liked to think of herself as the clever person in the room. Her belief that we are all closed-minded sheep springs from strong narcissistic traits that were always evident I think.

Jo99996 · 14/04/2021 08:53

Are these people Covid deniers, or against lockdowns? There’s a huge difference but the mainstream media lump them all together and write them off as Covid denying conspiracy theorists.

daffodil10 · 15/04/2021 23:55

They are deniers, they don't believe that Covid exists.

They start on that it's just flu and we are all being re-Programmed-by the government and we need to stand up etc etc

One I know doesn't deny it exists but argues loopy ideas about the state and control.

It's extreme cognitive dissonance in action. What's interesting is how gullible and unable to recognise evidence and quality of evidence, width of evidence if that makes sense. It's very narrow viewed.

She's a natural anarchist, enjoys being a bit different and is a graphic artist so self employed and works on her own.

She also completely throws her self into what ever her current partner is into. Which is what I fear has happened and I'm a little worried about her. She doesn't seem to fully understand her arguments and parrots a lot, then back tracks and claims she's being piled on.

Some articles last year characterised this type of person as being an against the flow personality and also poor at maths, which I feel she is.

I do sadly know someone else who took their own life due to the great reset theory and Covid, he believed it so deeply. That one is a bit different and has been going for years. Left a family behind.

As you can see from the posts on here there are plenty of people heading down that road but still think they are right or their thoughts are evidence based
If you want some great comebacks try visiting the wibble movement on Facebook
Makes you remember the world can be a sane place after all
