Travelling hours to see family

Travel to see family tomorrow or wait until law change on Monday ? Does it make any difference?

Nothing much changes for visiting on Monday. Outside, rule of six/two households, no overnight stays.

LilyPond2 · 09/04/2021 20:05

As far as family visits are concerned, I'm not aware of any relevant change in the law on Monday. As LIZS has said, it's still outdoor gatherings only, maximum 6 people or two households. (Assume we're talking about England. Have not kept up with law in other parts of UK.)

The only change that will come into play on Monday which affects seeing family is that if your family live far away, on Monday you will be able to travel to their locality and stay in a self-contained self-catering accommodation (I.e. not stay with your family in their house) and you will be able to meet your family outside following the rule of 6 / 2 households. If this is the case, then you will need to wait until Monday as accommodation providers won't take bookings until then. If you have a second home to go to then technically you could travel beforehand, but overnight stays won't be legal until Monday.

I'm talking about England (and I think the same applies to Wales) in my post.

Honestly you are being a pedantic to split hairs over a day or twos difference. And yes you can travel several hours - you don't have to stay home now

Kitkat151 · 09/04/2021 20:19

But nothing changes on Monday 🤔

missmapp · 09/04/2021 20:28

You can travel in and out of Wales from Monday but nothing in England has changed re travel

LovingBob · 09/04/2021 20:38

Depends if you are staying overnight, if not, no difference

LovingBob · 09/04/2021 20:40

Scrap that, you can't stay overnight with them but you could in a holiday cottage to be near when you visit

Nothing chances in terms of seeing family on Monday, unless you're wanting to go shopping or to a cafe.

The stay at home guidance has now finished.
You can already meet 6 people or 2 households outside.

We drove 3 hours each way to see my parents, my sister and my nephew earlier this week.

One tip is that service stations are open. You can have a comfort break and even the coffee shops and a number of the food places are open and you can sit indoors to eat/drink at them. We had to stop to charge the car for half an hour and enjoyed a Costa breakfast sat inside. Useful to know if doing a long journey.
