I'm confused about returning to school after positive Covid test/self isolation

DS (& our whole family) have had Covid. He is due to return to school on Monday & will have to undertake a LFD. My understanding is that we could all possibly test positive for up to 90 days following our original infection. If his LFD is positive (likely) then we will need a PCR which I'm assuming will also be likely to remain positive. None of us have been anywhere or seen anyone since coming out of isolation so it incredibly unlikely that have caught the virus again. How do we break the cycle of self isolation in this situation?

Oh & I have tried emailing & calling the school but there's been no response.

When did you all have COVID? Just don’t repeat the lateral flow tests until 90 days has passed - they aren’t compulsory

Dauphinois · 09/04/2021 16:09

My understanding is that while a PCR May pick up Covid up to 90 days after infection, lateral flows work differently and shouldn't show up as positive.

AliciaWhiskers · 09/04/2021 16:10

@Dauphinois you are told not to do either for 90 days

AndWhat · 09/04/2021 16:11

You shouldn’t lateral flow test if you have had covid in the past 90 days

ExpulsoCorona · 09/04/2021 16:12

My DD had Covid in January. Her school are not asking her to lateral flow until May.

Has your son already had a PCR to confirm covid? If so, he can refer back to that for the next three months.

EdinaMonsoon · 09/04/2021 16:33

Thanks for the responses.

So if we don't test at all for 90 days but DS returns to school, I guess that means that we might get Covid again without necessarily knowing unless symptomatic? Not sure how likely we are to get it twice in such a relatively small time frame but be grateful if others more knowledgeable could comment.

@ColourfulElmerElephant Yep - We both tested positive using LFD & PCR on 22 March.

I work in a school and I tested positive at the start of Feb, I can’t do it for 90 days. DS1 is in Y11 and was also positive and he hasn’t been doing turn either.

AliciaWhiskers · 09/04/2021 17:01

You can retest if you become symptomatic again

Dauphinois · 10/04/2021 00:40

You don't have to do lateral flows tests for 90 days after testing positive, but you can if you wish to - here:
