Choice of vaccine brand for under 30s

The fact that under 30s are going to be given the choice on the vaccine brand, doesn’t fill me with confidence with going ahead with the AstraZeneca jab as someone who is over 30.
It is sort of giving out two messages to the people especially women who are more likely to suffer the blood clots from Astra.
Anyone else feel this way?

I was feeling ok about going ahead despite AZ clotting risks (I’m over 30) but now a mum friend of a friend has been confirmed to have suffered the rare clotting after the AZ jab. Feels more real now and I’m scared to be honest.

She doesn’t have any risk factors as far as I’m aware but I guess people could have clotting issues without knowing it

Is she ok?

I just had it the other day and I’m 29 and not feeling too happy about it. I know it’s statistically unlikely I’m at risk but I can’t stop thinking about it and watching for symptoms...

I am also worrried about the AZ. I am on the pill so my risk of clots is already higher. Does this mean I am at even more at risk if I have the AZ? Should I stop taking the pill when I get called for my vaccine?

Foxhasbigsocks · 07/04/2021 21:15

@MarshaBradyo she’s in hospital still I think but I’m not sure

Different type of blood clot. The one with the pill is less dangerous.

For me logically I know that covid is more risk to me than the AZ jab but it’s scary now the side effect seems to have happened to someone actually in my circle

daisiesinmay · 07/04/2021 21:22

OP it says they'll be offered an alternative to AZ, that means they'll get something other than AZ, not that they have a choice. I think the BBC has worded it that way to minimise scaremongering that's all.

Iootraw1 · 07/04/2021 21:22

Having had covid already in last few months and having been asymptomatic I now know that covid doesn’t pose a risk to me and that for a good few months at least I have antibodies. Therefore having the AZ jab is now worrying me as I don’t feel that I am choosing between the risk of covid and the risk of a blood clot. I would just be taking a risk of getting g a blood clot for something which is designed to protect me against something I’ve already had and didn’t get I’ll from. So I don’t know what to think about all of this ....

@Iootraw1

In your shoes I definitely would not be having it. Good luck with your decision.
