My son (20) said he was feeling more tired than usual so I suggested he take a LF test. It came up positive. He did another 2 and they were positive too. We have a PCR coming in the post soon but I think we know the answer
Everyone else in the family are getting negative lateral flow results. Is it possible we will avoid it despite all living together? I’m so panicky. I haven’t had a vaccine yet and I’m overweight and 40 so I can’t stop worrying. I know exactly where he got it meeting up with a girl indoors while I was in bed! I said when I found out that he was putting us at risk - and he has done. Dh also went to a family gathering indoors against my wishes at the weekend. I just feel so sad that I’ve stuck to every bit of guidance yet the people around me are the ones who have put me at risk.

Two parents of children in my class from separate families were hospitalised during two separate outbreaks in the autumn. In each instance the child only passed covid onto one parent, not the other one and not siblings.

I wonder if we’ll ever know the secrets of why some avoid it.

The Kent strain, which is the predominant strain here now is more likely to spread to family members, I think, but it’s by no means a guarantee.

I think at 20, you probably have a much better chance especially if he can isolate himself as much as possible from the rest of you for the next 10 days. Lots of ventilation will help, just make sure the air is not blowing from him to you.

Good advice. It’s going to be a cold ten days as we’ve decided to leave as many windows open as possible. Ds is usually in his room with his window wide open anyway so maybe that’s why we’ve been lucky so far in not getting it. I only see him at meal times.
As for getting the vitamins in to my system, that’s a good idea. I have been taking vitamin d for the past year but I do need some other vitamins too, I’ll start those in the morning. Other than that, just hope for the best I guess.
And lots of dettol!

Has he been isolating in his room/cleaning bathroom after himself etc. since first test? If not, needs to do that pronto.

I remember Clare Gerada was one of the first people in the public eye to catch Covid but her husband didn’t, despite sharing a home. She isolated in her room.
