Blood clots post birth - should I have the vaccine?

I had a baby last year and suffered from quite severe blood loss and clotting after the birth, which culminated in a blood transfusion.

I was looking forward to getting the jab but given my history and the possible links between the AZ vaccine and blood clotting, I am now starting to feel wary.

I’m in my 30s, otherwise healthy and have never had any issues with blood clots apart from straight after the birth.

What would you do in this situation?

I would get advice from medical professionals

When you say you had clotting post birth, do you mean with vaginal bleeding or a thrombosis in the leg/lungs which required treatment of blood thinning injections for a significant period of time?

As PP says - check with a dr.

I had a similar issue after giving birth which means I can't take the pill anymore.

As im in France I won't be offered the vaccine until the summer but I will be checking which one I should have given my medical history.

I had a thrombosis

It was with vaginal bleeding. Following the transfusion I was then on blood thinners for six weeks afterwards.

That’s not what is meant by ‘risk of blood clots’. You’re talking about your post birth blood, which was heavy and there were clots in it. That is just a normal part of bleeding. If blood didn’t clot then that wouldn’t be good as you would just bleed and bleed and bleed when you cut yourself etc.

What is meant by ‘blood clot’ is a venous thromboembolism. Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) or Pulmonary Embolism (PE).

Oh, thank you @Fancymarmite - that makes a lot of sense!

Yep, different type of blood clot! Second what @Fancymarmite said 😊
