Sharp stabs of pain in AZ vaccinated arm after more than a week

Anyone else?

(I’ve been accused of being anti vax this week for my worries about the changing international stance on the AZ vaccine so quick reassurance that I’m pro vax and fully vaccinated including first dose AZ against Covid.)

I had AZ jab 10 days ago. Had really very achy arm for about 4 days after but nothing to see and fine since. Last night (day 9) I was up in the night with my son and got a sharp shooting pain exactly where my vaccine was. It was definitely the vaccine site as it almost felt like being injected again! Fine this morning and now tonight I keep getting shooting sharp pains there but nothing between. I’m a bit perturbed it’s ‘come back’ and why it’s hurting?! Did anyone else get this? Please reassure me. Nothing at all to see on my arm and never has been - no swelling, redness, hardness etc. Temperature is fine.

Didn't have this after the AZ jab but I have had it in the past with flu jabs, but can't be of any help as to why.

Thanks for the reply, which is reassuring. It’s so weird - arm feels and looks normal but just occasionally I get a sharp stab where I was injected. What’s going on in there?!

My arm still hurt a little if I lay on it at a certain angle up until around the middle of last week - so about 18 days post AZ vax. It is nothing to worry about. A sore arm is listed as a very common side effect.

If you are still worried, ask your GP, I am sure they will be able to reassure you.

I got this for years after my BCG in school. Perfectly normal.

My friend had arm fine for first week, then really sore second week.
It probably hit a nerve ending and irritated it, that can take a couple of weeks to settle.

Doesn’t sound like anything to worry about but you could do the yellow card notification (to MHRA) if it’s bothering you.

Thank you. Not fussed about yellow carding it or seeing a GP (it's literally just little sharp stabs rather than any ongoing pain anyway) as long as it's normal and you've reassured me that it's not unheard of. Smile

I got shingles around one week after the AZ vaccination, so check for a rash if you keep having pains
