Can someone explain the thinking behind the list? Is it purely econ-political?

Why is Pakistan (5k cases yesterday) on it but not India (103k cases yesterday)?

Why is The Seychelles on it (24 deaths in total) but not the USA (567K deaths in total)?

Why the UAE with its high vaccination rate but not Mexico?

Why are France and Italy not on it with the rising cases and the new variants?

Is someone just sticking a pin in a map?

I can't believe it either.
I'm flabbergasted and immensely frustrated!!!

Would it not be more sensible to wait for the updated list? The list linked is from last year and the only update to it was on 23rd April when India was added.

They have leaked though that UAE will be on the red list because it's a hub so I worry that this is the list.

I expected Europe to be on it not UAE.

Apparently there will more information tomorrow.

UAE is on the list because it’s both a transit hub and Dubai are letting anyone in from anywhere with no quarantine. Vaccination rates are pointless when you don’t have restrictions on going into a country, just like the UK before Christmas when anyone could turn up.

I'm wondering whether they will treat transmitting passengers differently.

I think most pasengers would be happy to put up with some discomfort at DXB airport if it meant that they could go on holiday
Eg no access to refreshment facilities, limited access to loos etc x

The issues is so many people travelling via 3rd countries to avoid quarantine.
So I think people came from use via Germany.
People India and Pakistan using Turkey.
Some used republic Ireland but think their rules tightened.

How is covid in Pakistan as its proximity to India.

Chille I believe used Chinese vaccine that was only 3% effective after 1st dose.

I really wish we could ban foreign travel this year until everyone's vaccinated including kids in the autumn.
In hugely worried about sept and new school year after the shit show that was last year.
We have seen how a new varient taking off how bad can get.

France I think I read has 15% Brazilian/ south African varient and only recently stopped flights to Brazil.
They also have their own French variant Brittany i think.

In just guessing I don't know for sure know but we probably have more people from India or family in India within the UK than South African or Brazilian.
