AZ and second jab/blood clot risk

Januaryissodull · 05/04/2021 12:40

Sorry to start another thread when there are already a couple. However I cannot seem to find any info about this online.

Does anyone know whether people developed blood clots after their first, or second vaccine?

I'm a young (ish) women in my 30s. Due my second AZ jab in a few days after having my first roughly 12 weeks ago.

I must admit that all of the headlines about other countries suspending its use are alarming me slightly.

My (perhaps wrong) logic is that although any risk is tiny, there won't have been a huge amount of younger people given this vaccine yet, so we can't possibly have true numbers of risks to younger people.

I think there was to 7 million people the CV group, many of who would be young females, my daughter was one, plus lots of young female healthcare workers, I think we would have seen lots of cases if there was a noticeable risk by now.

Cookerhood · 05/04/2021 12:49

I would think any cases here would be after the first dose, but there have been few second doses of AZ so far in this country, I would think? Here the over 80s have been getting their second AZ jabs this week.

NRCS · 05/04/2021 12:52

4-20 days after exposure which indicates the reported cases were after their first dose. No data on whether they had already had covid though that I can see published which might be a factor.

More likely to happen from taking the pill than the vaccine.

If you are worried, keep an eye on the side effect. It doesn't sound like regular side effect, but way more serious ones like severe headaches etc, like listed on this.

If this is a rare immune system response, as speculated, it’ll happen in reaction to the first jab.

roguetomato · 05/04/2021 16:00

I agree with Circumlocutious, it's not triggered by what's in the vaccine, it's to do with your own immune response.

I've posted this on another thread on this subject:

This is a medic breaking down the risk in non-sensational way. He says clearly the first jab is thought to be the danger point. (though I agree that not many second doses of AZ have been given yet. Some of my doctor friends - young women - have had 2 though with no ill effects.)

AstraZenecaisprettyforagirl · 05/04/2021 18:39

(I'll be having my 2nd AZ in a couple of weeks. 40 yr old with multiple complex autoimmune disorders.)

AbsolutelyPatsy · 05/04/2021 18:40

there are whole stroke units dedicated to the outcome of blood clots, blood clots are not new

Coffeeislife04 · 05/04/2021 18:42

Been on the birth pill on and off for 16 years way more chance of a blood clot from that had my first jab due second one soon. Caught covid in January and I'm 29 please try not to worry its as safe as any other jab.
