Can anyone help re this - 2nd vaccine related.

I'd be hugely grateful if anyone could help.

I am 48. i was called out of the blue for my first covid jab. I have chronic asthma and there were Pfizer jabs 'leftover' at the vaccine centre and they were going down a list of people like me and calling them ad hoc. I was THRILLED!

Thing is, no-one said anything about how I book / arrange / get my 2nd jab (due start of May). I have tried to book online but it seems you can only book for the 2nd jab if you are over the age of 50 (unless I got it wrong). My GO surgery were not involved with my first jab and when I rang told me it was nothing to do with them.

Does anyone know if you just get called again, or if i have to chase it, or what i am supposed to do? I only got a leaflet after the first about potential side effects and nothing else.

Sorry, I am completely clueless!

My husband got surplus vaccine and I’ve just used the NHS link to book his 2nd vaccine. Although he doesn’t fall into the categories it i the only way I could think of to book it.
The system recognised once I put his nhs number in that he had had one already and generated a date for his 2nd with a few vaccine locations...: I’d try this

Really? It won't even let me on! Mines due next month.

Has anyone tried to book in for a second Pfizer in the past few days? I'm now worried it's something to do with the shortage. Everyone I put in my NHS number and DOB it goes back to the start page.

I have the same problem. I was vaccinated as part of group 6. I do have a second appointment booked where I had my first but I've moved house and don't think I can drive home safely afterwards. I'm wondering if I need to cancel the first appointment before they'll let me use the booking system.
user1471530109 · 05/04/2021 10:03

@weegiepower thanks. It was end of Feb actually. I will give them a call tomorrow to check. Other people I know who had it around the same time have had second appts booked but they all had AZ. Clearly something isn't quite right if most can get on the NHS booking site and mine is just going round in circles!

DarceyDashwood · 05/04/2021 10:08

I am 42 and had a spare dose at a vaccine hub. I was told at the time I would get a text from my GP when it was time to book my second jab. However I have just tried to book online on the national booking site and was offered a slot. So maybe keep trying the online site or failing that you should get a text when the time comes.

endofthelinefinally · 05/04/2021 10:21

I wasn't given a date for my second dose when I had my first. The website won't let me book my second dose and it is due next week. I am just hoping I will get a letter or text in the next couple of days. If not, I will go along with DH to his second appointment (he got his text last week) and ask. Neither of us were given a second date at the time, maybe because we were among the very first group.

user1471530109 · 05/04/2021 10:40

That's not good! Did you book your first through the GP? Was it pfzier? When you use the NHS booking site does it just keep going round in circles?

I hope you get it sorted. I'd be ringing tomorrow (119 and GP) if I were you. I'd have my vaccine cars to hand to prove it in case for some reason it's not showing up on their systems.

ittakes2 · 05/04/2021 10:45

I also recommend ringing 119. Although to be fair I am guessing your age group will come up on line before your next vaccine is due.

HildegardNightingale · 05/04/2021 18:29

Don’t go to the vaccination centre. They won’t be able to give you a 2nd appointment and you will be putting yourself at unnecessary risk because of the numbers at the vax centre.
My dh was on a standby list and had his at a vax centre. He waited 2 weeks and then went on line. It knew he had had his first vax and gave him a second vax appointment for 11 weeks after his first vaccine.
Hope this helps.

Avidreader12 · 05/04/2021 19:40

If you go on nhs booking website manage appointments you should be able to book 2nd appointment using your nhs number or date of birth it should recognise you’ve had your first jab.

user1471530109 · 05/04/2021 19:52

Like I said @Avidreader12, mine won't get past that page. I've tried. Keeps going around in circles where I keep having to input my NHS number over and over.

RuthW · 05/04/2021 19:55

You will be contacted 10-7 days before it is due.

stuckasastuckthing · 05/04/2021 20:28

I heard that it would only let you book a second Pfizer dose 8 weeks or more after the first dose. But as pp has said my doctors asked us to wait to hear from them as if you had first dose at their clinic, even as an extra, they will have a second dose allocated to you and it messes up their numbers if you jump the gun and book elsewhere. They confirm their clinics about a week in advance so let people know appointment at 10-11 week mark.

UrbanRambler · 05/04/2021 20:31

That's good to know. MIL (86) had her Pfizer jab mid Jan and reaches the 12 week point soon. She's getting anxious but hopefully will be contacted soon.

Tealightsandd · 05/04/2021 20:41

@UrbanRambler
Maybe it's changed since I last looked into it for an elderly family member but it was the case that people who had their first jab via GP could book 2nd dose on the national site at the 11 week stage. I think in your MIL's case, as it's getting close to 12 weeks and given her age and vulnerability, it might be worth contacting her GP or the vaccine centre just in case she's missed a call or text or letter.

EasterIssland · 05/04/2021 20:45

If you’ve had the vaccine in the last days you even if you weren’t meant to then you can still book it through the national website (I was in a similar position to yours and I’ve managed to book the second dose)

However , taking into account that it’s pfizer maybe id wait and get called by the gps to make sure it’s pfizer your second dose. In case you go to any other place and that they they’re providing az.

elaboratethen · 05/04/2021 21:04

Scotland here. All the first vaccines are logged onto the same system ( TURAS). Once a first vaccine has been completed a second appt is automatically generated and a letter is sent out ( that's if you haven't manually arranged a second appt).
I'd still follow it up though, just in case you've fallen through the cracks

Wellbythebloodyhell · 05/04/2021 21:09

You'll be contacted or eligible to book online/or 119 around 10 weeks post 1st vaccine at that stage they will know where and when which clinics will be offering 2nd doses of which vaccine to ensure you get the same 2nd dose. This is something I'm involved with they are currently working on those who have been vaccinated up until near the end Jan and arranging 2nd doses within days/a week. Theres no need to worry about vaccine shortages for 2nd doses these are accounted for when ordered nationally, although this may be the reason you'll see a higher number of 2nd doses than 1st doses over the coming weeks. Please don't fear you'll be missed because you won't just be patient and answer any withheld or private number calls

hellsbells99 · 07/04/2021 13:32

@TastefulLiving have you managed to sort this yet? My sister is having the same problem.

UrbanRambler · 08/04/2021 23:24

MIL has now received a phone call and has an appointment in a few days for her second Pfizer jab. It will be 13 weeks from her 1st jab, so a week late in theory, but I doubt that her immunity will drop like a stone during that extra week (although the vaccines haven't been around long enough to really know, but time will tell).

Purpl · 10/04/2021 22:24

I got given my second appointment date at the same time with paperwork for the first.

QueenStromba · 13/04/2021 14:03

@user1471530109 Did you get sorted in the end? After speaking to three different people at 119 we eventually figured out that the website kept sending me around in circles because I'd had my first dose at a GP hub. If you've had your first dose at a GP hub then you can't use the NHS booking site and 119 won't be able to help.

user1471530109 · 13/04/2021 14:45

@QueenStromba that is really helpful, thank you Flowers.
No, I haven't called the GP yet. I thought I'd wait until there is 4 weeks left until the 12 week deadline. So basically next week. I'm trying hard not to be frustrated by it! Keep reminding myself that a few months ago i was in a much worse position. It's tough though knowing shielding has finished and back to work in the germ factory school next week.

@QueenStromba I guess each scenario is different I had a spare of the gps and managed to book on the site for my second a month ago. system might have changed

QueenStromba · 16/04/2021 15:59

Well I've cancelled my original appointment and now I no longer go around in circles when I use the booking site but it does tell me I can't use the service. I think you probably do already have a second appointment booked that you don't know about @user1471530109 - your best bet might be to call your CCG, they should at least know who you need to get in touch with to find out.
