Just that really, I cannot believe the amount of new born babies recently where I live.

@shittingthreeeyedraven

I am the same as you.

The phrase "lockdown baby" really irritates me and my reply is nope it was a planned pregnancy!!!

JeanClaudeVanDammit · 03/04/2021 23:16

There is no boom, overall pregnancies and births have fallen substantially.

We were going to try in March last year but didn't for obvious reasons. I had prenatal depression which was awfully managed by the NHS and would not have coped in Lockdown. I had my coil removed last week and when I told the nurse we were TTC she punched the air and cheered! To be honest with how things are now I'm not too fussed but DH and DD are keen so we will try casually.

I had my little "lockdown baby" 8 weeks ago. We had been trying for 18mths and had already been referred to the fertility clinic and had appointments prior to this Coronavirus even being heard of.

I'm 43 next month so obviously not something I could have paused.

Maybe you are just noticing new mums more as they are not allowed to be inside visiting with family and friends?

Piggywaspushed · 04/04/2021 11:47

I attended an online lecture by the Centre of Population Change at the ESRC Univ of Southampton. Recent studies show there has not been a Baby Boom - in fact , there has been a slight decline. What they do predict is one after the Covid crisis is over, as there has been one after every national crisis.

I work in a lab where we tested blood from pregnant women and I can tell you there is indeed a baby boom, our numbers have shot up this last year. Much older mums coming through for testing as well. So yes there is definitely a boom.

Aren't we overpopulated enough?
Yes A decline in growth is the only silver lining.

A decline in growth is the only silver lining.

The thought of a post-Covid baby boom (i.e. like after the war) is a bit scary. There's already too many people on the planet. I know the whole point of lockdown is to save as many of them as we can, but there has to be a limit on how many people we can sustain on our island.

And indeed, the world.
