Mixed household holidays from 17th May - how likely?

Astridium · 31/03/2021 16:14

We have a UK holiday booked with my parents starting 15th May. At the moment, if the relaxation happens on schedule we'll go ahead with my parents joining us 2 days later. I have two weeks to decide whether to cancel or not, how risky do we think it is that household mixing won't be allowed on schedule?

I seriously doubt it, although many will ignore.

What are your T&Cs?

pommedeterre · 31/03/2021 16:29

There's no reason to believe we are going off the roadmap is there?!

Confused by previous post!

I think you should continue to assume it will happen OP.

Iremembertheelderlykoreanlady · 31/03/2021 16:29

Why do you doubt it?

It's part of the roadmap and Boris has said he sees nothing in the data to suggest the roadmap will not go as planned.

Cases are not rising and neither are hospitalizations and deaths

Mummyme87 · 31/03/2021 16:30

I think 17th May will be fine. I suspect 21 June will be pushed back a little potentially

pommedeterre · 31/03/2021 16:34

I agree mummyme87. Arguably a lot of us would be relieved and happy enough with the measures on 17th May to allow public opinion to allow a slip on 21st as well.

AnyFucker · 31/03/2021 16:36

We are still on track for this

Iremembertheelderlykoreanlady · 31/03/2021 16:38

I can't even remember what 17th May includes except 2 households going on holiday together (as I'm in same boat as oP)

kittensarecute · 31/03/2021 16:39

Not me. I will only be happy with all restrictions gone in June and will accept nothing less, I need to get back to my theatre groups for the sake of my mental health and cannot do that with restrictions in place.
pommedeterre · 31/03/2021 16:43

To be clear - I really hope they are all gone kittens, for you and everyone else in your position. It must feel like a really long roadmap if what you are really waiting for is allowed only on June 21st.

Astridium · 31/03/2021 16:55

We are all vaccinated already, two households only with no one working outside the home. So frustrating.

Same here @astridium

Still waiting for @idontlikealdi to come back and explain why they doubt it...

Astridium · 31/03/2021 18:00

I'll need to check the terms and conditions. If our holiday started after the 17th then we would be covered, however because we are starting from the 15th I'm not sure.

OP posts:
CuthbertDibbleandGrubb · 31/03/2021 19:00

I am fairly confident that 17th May will happen as will April 12th changes on those dates. Though I think you are sensible to check terms and conditions.

RainingZen · 31/03/2021 19:02

I wouldn't make any assumptions.
Remember what happened at Christmas.

pommedeterre · 31/03/2021 19:12

We all saw Christmas coming from miles off in the numbers. The numbers don't look like that now, 6 weeks off the 17th. We also have now jabbed 31m (nearly!) people...

Astridium · 31/03/2021 19:47

It does seem like they're being overly cautious now after being recklessly cavalier last year. We haven't seen my parents since last summer as too far apart for daytime outside meet ups and tiers wouldn't allow anything else.

OP posts:
Iremembertheelderlykoreanlady · 31/03/2021 19:56

The 2 situations aren't comparable. Vaccine, warmer weather etc

If hospitalization and deaths start to rise I'll worry, until then nah

Iremembertheelderlykoreanlady · 31/03/2021 19:56

Bold fail!

Astridium · 31/03/2021 20:18

I suspect we'll just have to keep our fingers crossed and just go away on our own if the rules don't change as hoped. My mum was so excited to have something to put in her calendar though, they're both in their 70s and my siblings live abroad so they're fairly isolated at the moment.

OP posts:
Astridium · 01/04/2021 13:47

Hmm, it looks like we could go to Wales instead and have a full week if I'm reading the latest correctly

OP posts:
Brokenrecord3006 · 01/04/2021 21:38

Would anyone stop your parents turning up regardless? Surely you can all just go on holiday as planned?

Astridium · 01/04/2021 22:55

We've been asked for names and addresses of all visitors which I presume is some sort of check that restrictions are being adhered to. I'm assuming it's covid specific as it's never something I've provided in the UK previously

OP posts:
Astridium · 05/04/2021 17:46

Opening up from the 12th is going ahead as planned so that's good news.

Slightly annoying that parent and child groups of up to 15 can meet indoors from 12 April, but still can't meet my vaccinated parents indoors until the 17th May. But then rules have never seemed to have been closely aligned to risk the whole way through
